Let's talk about this surfing for Bulls. TOO, I hope you can post your rig. I'm kind of your visualize kind of guy.
If we are fishing the surf, 2nd gut? Popping cork? Give me some clues so I can get so worked up I may just leave tommorrow.....LOL

TOO, you can count on a report if I go this weekend. Scottie, I was just pondering tactics myself...I was thinking about the 2nd gut using a popping cork and some big lively finger mullet...maybe put a line out with a bottom rig to pick up a mess of whiting for the freezer, or just to change things up. I can't believe it's been 3 years this month since I fished the salt! It's good to be back in Texas, I tell you what

ill see if i can sum up some time on 27th, 20th is my midterm time. my local newspaper had a big article about the big daddy reds.
when wading, should we bring waders? or has it not cooled that much there? i went to the guad and waded and it was FREEZING! being that outside was a nice 85. also, have the stingrays moved out yet? ill prolly bring my trusty, durable spinning shakespear 65 combo reel (it never quits), and my curado 100b for casting.

The H2O will be fine, the fronts don't cool the water much this time of year. A cool breeze though will make you shiver if your wet........Scottie, I'm not big on saying you got to do it "this way", other than saying to stop at the Chevron at the 83 exit on 37 for a chopped beef sandwich , but I'll make a suggestion. For the surf the standard bottom rig, short leader, 3 way swivel, and long leader. 1-3 oz of weight, and a Kahle hook about #4-6. cut bait, whole finger mullet or small croakers, etc. Fish on the bottom and use a rod holder. While waiting for a strike fish with a bay rig in the gut with lures or just relax........best rod holders are 4' sections of PVC pipe, cut to at an 45 degree angle. Hammer in the sand and rod in the top. Fish bites, fight fish, bring in fish, picture of fish, release fish. simple. repeat as needed......about the jetty rig, I'll email you a picture, scottie and USMCCD, of the set up, and will to anyone else who wants to see the famous "TOO SLIP-FLOAT JETTY RIG". guaranteed to catch fish or see a float in the water.......I'm trying to see how to post a picture but it's a little out of my understanding.........pictures not very good but the yellow thing at the left is the bobber stop then the bead, float, egg sinker, bead, swivel, leader, and hook........appreciate it from those that sre heading down this weekend for a report, it ought to be good. Good luck to yall. [This message has been edited by TOO (edited 09-16-2003).]

Hey sandaflores where do you camp when you are there? I thought about a hotel for the 27th but the weather is great and the price is even better.
Also, I know where access road #2 is however I am not sure about the marker numbers?
Thanks Scottie

Been doing some wade fishin' myself the past few weekends. The redfish are definetly there. Been wading along the shorelines and in the surf. Along the shorelines, I find them to be holding in and around grass pockets/mud esp. late afternoons. The grass pockets have been holding lots of mullet late evenings and during the middle of a high/and outgoing tide. They spook easy too. So for you topwater anglers, this is your chance to start crankin'. Live mullet fished bottom on a redfish rig or making your own rig from a three way swivel has produced well for me. Also we've been seeing alot of black drum showing up. Biggest I've seen recently was 45". Their choice of bait is crab which also works well for red fish. Landed 2 redfish 23 1/4",25..3/4" Aug.31 on live mullet on the edge of an incoming storm in the surf. Talk about getting wet! Four keeper redfish were caught that day in less than an hour and 2speckled trout. The only thing that drove us out of the water was the lightening. Had a blast while it lasted though!!! I will keep reading the posts to see how my schedule looks from here until ya'll plan the date. Hope to see ya'll on the water.

PS..dont forget those cast-nets.

Scottie, When I go there I usually go to the 83, 73, or 96 markers. When you turn down the beach road go to the left and the markers are on the left side of the road. I'll have a big red tarp, you can't miss it. I think the weather is going to be great this weekend, apart from the stray showers that pass by, but that shouldn't be a problem. (unless it's lightning)
LADY RED....... where were you fishing at? I'll be going down there this weekend, Port Aransas.

Posted 3 pictures of the "TOO's Famous Slip-float jetty rig" on the TFF share album. The third picture is the best in quality. With this rig you can fish from 1' to as deep as you got line. Just slide the bobber stop up or down the line until you're at the right depth. Just make sure the stop is tight againest the line. Hope it helps for folks on the jetty.

"TOO's Famous Slip-Float Jetty Rig", history is being made. TOO, thanks for the pictures (got to work on your photography or camera). Got some questions.
Working from the hook end - 1. Length of the leader & line weight; 2. swivel, type?; 3. bead (ok); 4. egg weight (weight); 5. cork (got it); 6. bead (why?? is this the secret of success??); 7. stopper, what did you use?
I think you're holding out on us. Are you sure this is it....image looks like it has been doctored....LOL
Thanks Again Scottie

Scottie beat me to the recipe request I've used a similar rig before (actually fashioned one out of desperation once, caught the only red of the day on it too ) but it was poorly made, and minus the bobber-stop.
