How many of you guys trailer your boat back and forth from home to the coast? Is it really a huge pain? Ive always left my boat but sometimes I worry about it, so im thinking about just taking it back and forth.

Where're you from? I always trailered mine to and from S.A. fished the local lakes sometimes and never knew where I'd be fishing, plus I did maintaince on my time not during coast time. How big of a rig is it?

Wondered that also...if you had to pull it 10 hours every time, then I probably wouldn't do it. I only take mine about half the time I go anyway...if going strictly to wade, nite fish under lights, etc., then I just leave it at home...no cleanup. Must confess, I feel much better knowing my boats are at my house where I can watch them - and do needed maint. I can leave my stuff loaded and ready to go in a minute - and noone in my area has ever touched anything...and I leave stuff in my boats, on the porch, in driveway drying out all the time (knock on wood).

I trailer my boat for 5 hours - one way. Never had a problem (except for the expensive gas). I just make sure my bearings are greased and I have a spare tire ready to go. However, I have a tandem axle trailer. So I'm not as worried of having a blow out.
To me, it's a pain, but it's worth it. I enjoy fishing the local lakes here, but definitely enjoy the spoils of salt water.

I pull mine. From Oak Hill to Rockport takes me about 3 1/2 hours with or without it. Cost me about $20 extra for fuel towing it. But I enjoy "preparing" it for the trip, kicking the tires, making sure everything works, loading gear. I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my "baby" that far from home ------------------ Fishermans Resources And of Coarse.. Texas Hunters

I live in Mcallen and fish at SPI its about 70 miles which is nothing compared to how far you guys trailer your boat. I guess I'm going to start taking it back and forth so I can keep and eye on it and stuff. Oh btw its an 18ft shallow sport

Hey Joker -
Where in McAllen do you live? I grew up in McAllen. Went to school at Sharyland way back when before I headed to Austin and now Dallas.

I trailer my boat a 24ft Grady White walkaround as far as 9 hours to get to the salt (Plano to Port A). I moved inland for the first time 5 years ago and it's driving me nuts. The rest of the time it stays on a lift in a slip at Lake Texoma for easy access after work for some Striper fishing. I bring it home to prep it for the coast and for major projects. It's an 86 model so I'm always upgrading/adding something. ------------------ [ [This message has been edited by fishon2 (edited 09-28-2003).] [This message has been edited by fishon2 (edited 10-02-2003).]

Who else on TFF trailers from the DFW area to the coast?
I'd like to talk to others in DFW who have the same passion for the saltwater as I.
Someday I plan to move back...........

I'm from Dallas and typically trailer to Galveston...hence the 5 hours. I have a 21' CC that I drag with me. The wife's parents live in ClearLake. So we stay with them.

I live in Houston and find that I have to trailer my boat at least 2 hours to get to any good water. I used to live in Dallas and having 5or 6 lakes to choose from within 70 miles is HEAVEN!!!! If I did not like saltwater fishing so much, I would move back to Dallas. btw, the saltwater here is murder on the bearings, etc. I find that I have to maintain my trailer more here than I ever did in Dallas. Tradeoffs........ Oh I have a 21' Proline walkaround with tandem axle also.

I have a 20' CC and trailer it from DFW to Port A. Although, I did upgrade my truck to a F250 with Power Stroke Diesel. It is overkill for my boat, but makes the drive effortless!
