I'm somewhat of a newbie to surf fishing and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to catch Jacks in the surf. I hear they are a blast to catch. Things like bait, rigs, good spots, etc.. I'd appreciate any advice you guys have. Tight Lines!

jangofett -

If the jacks on the coast of Texas are like the jacks on the Atlantic coast of Florida, I fish them starting mid-June through July by casting surface lures around bridge pilings/docks along the intercoastal waterway first thing of a morning (from the bank). I use a 10-11 foot surf rod and 2-ounce pencil popper and really get it going to get them excited. They love the piling structures and they will absolutely destroy a surface bait. One of my all-time favorite blasts during the hot month of July. Be sure to use a 12" steel leader and tighten the drag down a few notches to keep them out of the pilings....

PINS(padre island national seashore) often has jackfish in the surf. They can be caught when inshore with a number of lures, spoons, mirrorlures, etc or live bait. You'll need a 4x4 for that beach.
