I am looking to purchase and set up an aluminum boat this fall so I am doing a little research.

Please tell me why I ought to go with a foot controlled trolling motor?

Please tell me why I ought to go with a tiller handle trolling motor?

What is the advantages of a tiller handle?

I have fished all my life with a foot control but thought I might consider a handle.

I think it all depends on:

1 - What the layout of your boat is like. ex: A hand controlled would allow your more deck space. If you like to use the seat, a foot control would be better. Etc.

2 - What kind of fishing you do. ex: I love my I-Pilot, but I wouldn't recomend it for someone who is mainly around stumps and shallow water.

Me and the Fam are moving back to Louisiana so I'll be doing most of my fishing in lakes and on the Red River.

I also would like to be able to remove the trolling motor fairly easily because I plan to duck hunt out of this boat as well.

Hand control allows you to steer most of the time and fish some of the time.

Foot controll allows you to steer and fish, with most time spent fishing.

Really a "no brainer"...

I've had both foot and hand control (currently). I am going back to the foot control. To much stuff in the way with my hand control (big foot control arm and floor mounted power switches). I fish in the heavy cover and stumps fields almost all the time, so I want to keep hands free. Wireless, not sure how easy it would be to handle in the areas I fish.

I have a foot control and I'm going to a hand control. My bow deck is small and I like to be able to point a motor and go. To much BS to deal with in a foot control IMO. Plus i dont like standing on one leg all day!! As far as cable or wireless foot control....I hear the wireless is slow to respond.

I can't say that I have experienced that and I have the same boat you have (24ft ZX Bay). I've never had a problem controling the boat with my hand control.

It's a real good possibility, but until it's final, I'm not going to count my chickens, if you know what I mean.

I have fished all my life with a foot control. But I don't want to jump off the cliff like a lemming just because alot of people use the foot control. There has to be some benefit to the hand control because there are alot of them on the market.

The wireless is to fancy for me and I have heard too much complaining about them, as many of you have as well.

The corded seems to be a good option simply because you can move the foot pedal anywhere with ease. Moving the cable pedal is difficult sometimes and very frustrating. But the corded seems like it is too dependent on electronics to steer and I am afraid when that thing breaks you'll get punched in the face by the repair man.

The cable has it's cumbersome issues, but at least it is a mechanical device so you don't have the electronic worries.

A Pro-Kontroll handle and a stomp switch on each side of the front deck have done me well on my hand control. It's been from Belton to Whitney to Tawakoni to Amistad to Falcon to Ivie to several more. Open water to stump fields.

That being said, my tournament partner's iPilot is the shitz.
