My ability to change the range setting to anything above 60ft. on my Structure Scan quit working. It will change to values less that this but not more than. Any suggestions on what could have happened and how to fix? It was my first trip to the lake since installing the 4.0 version software.

This happened to mine too and haven't got a remedy yet. It's in the post another lowrance sidescan?

Was yours 60ft. and 4.0 version also? If you get an answer please let me know, and I'll do the same.

Thanks for looking into this. I too ran into this problem on both of my HDS-7's. It seemed to occur when I manually changed my range from 80' to 60'. After that I lost the ability to manually change it back to anything above 60'. If I set it to auto, and it automatically went to 80', then I could manually change it to 80' but no higher. I then went to deeper water and selected auto and it automatically went to 120' range, I could then manually select any range up to 120'. If I then manually selected the 60' range, then next time I went to select a different range, 60' would be the highest option available. The fix may consist of simply doing a soft/hard reset on the unit. I didn�t try this as I could not recall the key sequences between the two and did not want to risk losing my waypoints/settings while I was on the water.

On a more positive note, the other enhancements included with the update are awesome. The screen redraw speed when zooming the map is greatly improved, and the units response to key presses is now almost instantaneous. I really thought that splitting the HDS-7 into three screens would result in them being too hard to see, but I couldn�t have been more wrong, I absolutely love it. Just as advertised, inserting my Navionics map card resulted in a pop up asking if I would like to start using it, and though I never really considered it much of an issue to begin with, the update did cut the startup time on my units from ~45 sec. to ~34 sec. Once we get the side scan ranging issue sorted out, then I would have to say that Lowrance hit a home run both for them and for us with this update.

To fix go to the Sonar page then MENU, SETTINGS, SONAR, FISHING MODE, Change to Freshwater.

all you need to go into your sonar menu and take it out of shallow water mode and either put in Fresh water or General issue. I prefer fresh water mode. This will let you range out more

Is this range limitation with 'shallow water' setting only with the 4.0 update? or the same with earlier versions? if I'm in fresh water lakes should it be set to freshwater or shallow with LSS1? don't even know that I've ever changed the fishing mode in sonar menu before.

Thanks for the quick response regarding this issue, I will give it a try this coming weekend. I do have one question though, is this the way that the programmers envisioned this to work? In other words is this a workaround or a fix.

Maybe "fix" wasn't the proper term to use, as it implies something was broken. Is this a work around or is it working as designed?
