Have had the whole week off of work and yet today was the first chance I've had to get the boat out on the water. Naturally it was the day with 43+ mph winds (according to my VHF radio) ...

Fortunately the fish were easy to find. Set anchor in front of a ridge/shelf area in about 17 ft and spent a few hours casting a mouse lure to the 10 ft depth. Would get hit as the lure dropped over the edge into deeper water. Quit counting after 150, with very few dinks. Had a few hybrids show up, but it was mostly sandies for this trip.

Only downer today was busting my anchor on the first day I've used it. This of course comes after busting my previous one two weeks ago ... this could get expensive in a hurry!

Anyways, today the fish were interested in color. Started with a chartreuse mouse, caught a few fish on it, but not many. then switched to white and so forth. Once I tied the black mouse on, it was fish on almost every cast.

Butch, I think you need to rename your lure the 'mighty mouse' for its fish-catching ability.

That wind is crazy out there. I also lost my rope and anchor yesterday and almost got dunked in.$60 later i was back on the lake today. the Hybrids showed up in a big way for me this morning . The first 4 fish were hybrids and we had 6 more to follow on a 3 hour trip.

Zeek, interesting that they wanted black, would have thought white or chartreuse. Nice report, wind is no fun but sometimes you can make it work for you.

I was fishing for crappie the other day with a blk/chrt jig on bottom and white/blue on top. Kept catch sandies only on the bottom jig, hmmm... I think I might change the colors of some of my mice to black/Chartreuse...I have the powder coating to do it!
