A lot of bass I catch in Florida have that coloring. I usually fish a private lake with a black bottom and off colored water. Don't know about that color in a clear water environment. Odd.

One of my customers caught a bass that was that dark last spring at Fork on the edge of hydrilla. They will almost always be darker when they have been in the grass. A bass has the ability to camouflage itself and blend into its surroundings. I have noticed when the water is murky the bass have a more whitish appearance too.

Have seen sevaral like that over the years.Usually have infection and growth on both eyes. TPWD biologist speculated growth on eyes due to being held out of water & eyes drying out. Coloration due to chameleon ability of bass.Bass living in total darkness turns black. Sounds possible. Oh ,yeah, everyone I have seen show signs of being hooked.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.
