I have fished very good guides and very bad guides. Before spending that kind of money, check out the guide. I'm new to this site but it feels like a good site to do that.
You really need to fish with good guides, at least a couple times. You will learn more in a day than a years of poking around blindly by yourself. Plus good guides are fun to fish with, it's how they make their money. They are interesting to talk with, they know their stuff, and as long as you DO NOT put a GPS in you knapsack, trying to steal a couple cheap fishing holes, you should learn enough to fish competly (sp) for whatever you are fishing for, in the season you are fishing,
Sounds like this clown needs to make a few meetings

Bazztex the tuna will never see my airboat unless they swim up river to the Denison Dam because for one thing it has no flotation at all.

If you are not paying a guide to show you routes and fishing spots what are you paying them for. I know of course you are paying them to put you on fish, but you are, or at least I would be paying them to guide me through the bay so I might on my own be able to return to these spots and catch fish in the future. A GPS would be a great way to record these routes and waypoints.

A couple of months ago I went on a Charter leaving FreePort and would recommend Capt. Bill to anyone that wants to go on a charter in the Galv/Freeport area. Not only was he a nice guy and his deck-hand ROCKED, but we also got on some nice fish. The only thing worse than being on a charter and not catching fish is being on a charter where the capt. is a di*#@. If anyone is interested in pictures of our trip let me know. http://www.workingmancharters.com/photo.html -srohde
