I was wondering if the bull reds were starting to show up in the surf at Galveston? I have a friend that just got back from Sabine Pass and they tore them up outside the jetties there. Thanks for any information.

They should be going from now until Late October or early November; I caught my biggest red (a mere 32") from surf at SPI around this time of August.

I'll be looking to eclipse that record by a fair bit this fall though

BassMaster--
how bout some details on the Sabine Pass
trip by your friend? Were they fishing the
jetties or the short rigs? I may be going this weekend. Why are you wanting to fish
Galveston ? Sabine pass is much closer
and you dont have to drive thru Houston.
Good luck

i don't have a boat, where can I go at Sabine Pass and catch them from the bank or surf? My buddy went just off the jetties and caught a bunch of big reds, I saw the pics!

OK now I see your point. You need a
boat to fish the jetties at Sabine pass.
If you have surf gear, There are miles of
beaches west of the town of sabine pass.
there is a good pier in the pass itself,
but I dont know if they get a good redfish
run in the fall or not. There are a lot
of short piers in sabine lake( on the
pleasure island causeway) but I have
not fished off them. There is a pier between
Sabine and Galvestion , called Meacoms ,
that has excellent redfishing, but it was
damaged during the storm and I don't know
if it is open or not.
Good luck

fished off of flagship pier in galveston and caught 2 black drums. One went 32 inches the other as closer to 40. They hit cut shad on a double hook rig. Size 6 hook. I did see one redfish caught while i was there, but for the most part the redfishing was not that great. Worth a try though.

They're definitely at High Island on the beach between Meacoms and Pelican Piers and you can drive on the beach with two wheel drives as well.
