Horn, great report, one thing missing though. . .

It's more than the catfish would do.

Hill country stream yv_fish wink. Thinking of going back in the fall once the temp cools down, hoping for a longer stay and an even better trip. Perhaps a few Austinites can get together and fish. Praying for rain til then.

Gib, it turned out better than expected. The low water made the trip daunting initially and certainly made it exhausting in the end with more portaging than I can ever remember. All the flies I posted leading to this trip worked well, some caught more than others. Interestingly enough, its the loosely packed deer hair flies/patterns that caught more and bigger fish in the end. Go figure. Better lucky than good I guess.

Did your loose packed flies suspend after a good soaking?? ive been wontering about that. If packing the hair a little looser will allow the bug too suspend just below the surface enough. interesting. cogs are turing up there... i think ha. I wonder if the lack of oxygen in the water (cause by low water levels aka. portaging) or rather just less abundant oxygen would cause the fish too suspend more and there for the bugs worked the best. This also might explain why your big guy there sipped up that bug instead of smashing it. either that or your retrieve and fly of course created a very good injured fish, enough so that that big guy just didnt put any effort into it. hmmm very interesting.

The bottom line is that it did what its supposed to do. I wouldn't change a thing the next time I tie some more. As far as the take by the big fish, it was surreal because every other bass hit it pretty hard.

Funny take with Golem Gib. Its just another fly, no big thing. Maybe I chose the correct bass rod or the way I set my drag that worked this time. grin

I think spring is finally here in my neck of the woods. Now, its just a matter of waiting for the creek to settle down a bit and I should be back in business.

Sign of spring.

With materials still scattered around the desk from my recent trip back to Texas, I tied a few more jigs for the local smallies. Thats the goal at least.

Hope to report on the smallies soon.
