Can you eat these things? How do you prepare them?

You can eat them, just the "wings", cut off and skin them...they are ok...BTW this is what fake scallops are made out of, they punch them out w/ a cookie cutter, throw them in the frozen section of the groc. store as "scallops"
Garlic, butter,& lemon on the BBQ pit for best results

I was in galveston last yr on vacation. And will repeat it again in june. but when i was there, they where all over the place in shallow water. just running up and down the shore all day long. does this happen all the time? or what?

In the hot summer I see em every where especially on shallow flats and along the shoreline, when a buddy and I were younger we used to catch some very large ones off of his Grandpa's pier June-August...we used to bait a heavier bay rod w/ large squid, when the baitclicker started screamin' it was on...they do put up a serious fight... in 1989 my dad caught one in his shrimp net that was about six foot across(atlantic stingray)It was a monster especially since I was just a kid then.

Yall people are crazy. I would not target sting ray for anything. If you want fake scallops, just buy them at the store or red lobster. If I ever catch a string ray I cut my line.

I never target rays, but...a big ray on lighter tackle is a blast. Good shark bait and agree this is what you get more often than not when you order scallops...LOL! Really, though, a 10# ray on 10# cajun line is totally awsome!!

They do make good shark bait but instead of targeting them I would just go to the local shrimpers and get the ones that they have. Also, rays just kind of tug on the bottom. But, a cow ray can throw down,. However I still dont wish to catch them and wish that I would never catch another after the 60-70 lber that I caught on a curado/allstire riged with 40 lb braided line. It took too much time away from the trout action and they were really bitting. Im trying to catch a big one for CCA. Anyway, If you want some real and good scallops hit up TWQ Georges Seafood in Corpus Christi and soon to be in San Antonio. They are huge rreal and juicy. My friends are the cooks and manaers of the two places.
