Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time poster.
We are headed to POC June 2-4, for our annual family reunion Speck and Red tourny.
Any suggestions for good early morning wading?
We've been going to the Baffin area the last 7 years, and everyone decided to try something different this year... Thanks!!!

Best bet right know is fishing south shore line and around grass island and farwell island.fish have been holding in those areas. fishing has been hit or miss. was down 2 weeks ago and had good luck buddy went down last weekend and tides were bad etc. not to good of fishing.
best bite for me came on norton sand eels and the brown lure deivls. early in day and using shrimp under a pop n prop float and or a cajun thunder later in day.

I use to have a coworker that would have a family gathering every year where all the men would have a red/fish tournament and fish down near south padre, sounds like a lotta fun. Good luck fishing! Unfortunately I dont know any wading areas at POC, but If you have access to a boat the army hole does pretty well sometimes.

Troutmaster, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!!!
I heard this morning that quite a few people have had numerous shark problems in the POC bay. Not exactly sure where, but have heard it more than once. Anyone else heard of any problems?

Witout a boat, POC is tough but there is access to some pretty good fishing areas when the road along the bayfront dead ends to the North.
With a boat, some great places to wade include the Community bar or the Hump kinda in the middle of West Matagorda in front of Saluria Bayou, and the Cedars which are located on the bayside of the island marking the North shore of Pass Cavallo. Lots of good spots along the West shore of West Matagorda Bay leading on up to what they call the J-hook or some call Sunday Beach and the Fish Pond.

If you can find clean water in the bay, fish the guts between sand bars for trout. If no clean water there, try Bill Days reef or the old coast guard station. If that's no good, give Dewberry a try or further up the IC.

The fish are really shallow early in the mornings, so shallow that their backs are out of the water (less than knee deep to ankle deep) then move out to 3-4 feet over oyster shell later. Yes, sharks have been bad in the bays, not big ones but the little 1-3 foot Blacktips. Make sure you have a descently long stringer, and keep your fish pushed away from you. Also if you are close enough to the boat, put your fish in the cooler. Hope this helps.
