I purchased the 798 and the Platinum Hotmaps, today.

I registered with Hummingbird. Registration was successful.
Had there been any updates required for my unit, would it have said so after registration?

What software do I need to purchase to work with my unit at home? Transfers, snapshots, etc?

Could not find any place to register my Hot Maps on the Navionics site?

It will be awhile before I install. I am doing some work on the boat, but I may have more questions later. However, I will read everything I can in the meantime.

Thanks, for your help. I am so proud of this unit, can't wait to get it on the water.

HumminbirdPC (version 3.2.2)
son2xtf (version 1.001)
son2xtf for Windows Vista (version 1.001)
798ci SI Combo Update (version 5.450)

Just went to "my account" on Hummingbird and found these notations of updates I need. I will have to get some sd cards and read up on how to do it. Is that Windows Vista update necessary. I use Windows XP?

Where do you purchase your SD cards and what kind and size?

Thanks

I downloaded the Hummingbird PC file. Now I will read and get me some MMC/SD cards.

I dont believe the 798 will support the platinum card, I think the premium is the one you need. Might check before you open it.

You're correct, it will not. Exchanged today for premium.
Thanks for the response.

You do not need the Vista Download if you are using XP. You need a SD card and a card reader. You can download the update directly to your SD card. I think it is Drive F if I remember correctly. Be sure to rstore to defaults and then power off your unit before inserting the card into the 798. Once inserted power on and follow the prompts. When finished take the card out and redo your settings to your liking. Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for your assistance. I will have more questions, later. I am really studying You Tube and the Hummingbird site.

I have downloaded my update file to the SD chip. I do have a card reader on my PC. I haven't downloaded it to the unit , yet. I am playing with simulator for now. I wonder if it would be ok to load the Hot Maps Premium into the unit even tho it is not installed yet?

Thanks

Jim

Thank you, Quicksilver. I am hoping you and Zack will accompany me and maybe I can learn to interpret the info displayed and we can catch some fish together. I have gutted the boat, ready to start carpeting and re-install. Probably about 4 weeks away from the maiden.
