I fished Tungsten for the first time a few weeks ago. Windy day on Ivie and I wanted a 3/4 oz. for fishing deep Carolina rig. Was complaining about the size of a 3/4 oz. lead and my buddy suggested I try Tungsten. I know they are expensive, and we lost a ton in the rocks, but I will never fish lead in 1/2 oz or bigger again. The feel and size made it so worth the money. Highly recommend you give it a shot. Happy fishing!

Initially I thought moving to tungsten would not be worth the cost increase. Slowly I bought a pack here and there and at first only used it in tournaments, then I started using it more and more in fun fishing and now its all I use. I actually realized a while back I lose a lot less weights now to hangups. Chances are if I am throwing 3/4 or bigger weights its on braid so I have not lost many of those either. I just started buying them a little at a time but now its all I own. I would not tell anyone to go all in and spend a ton on them but I will urge anyone to try them for yourself and I truly think you will realize as I did that the benefits outweigh the cost plus you can keep cost reasonable by buying when on sale or a little at a time until you have a good stock.

Try H20 they do have inserts but if you get a lighter and hold it with a pair of pliers you burn the insert right out. I use the Strike King tungsten bc they were out of the H20. H20 you get more for your money and its cheaper.

I like the size, which I think makes the presentation smaller and more realistic.

I'm fixing to order some more weights. Has anyone used steel weights? If so, how do they compare to the tungsten weights? I've never used them before, but I have used lead, brass, and tungsten. I use steel weights on my Carolina Rig. Mostly 3/4oz but I may go to to 1 oz if it is real windy. It is hard like tungsten - at least it transmits up the braided line much more than brass or lead. I don't care about the size because the bait is back a ways on the leader. I fish in the rocks a lot with this rig and tungsten weights could make it an expensive day if you break off 10 times.

A little tip here regarding the weights with the plastic insert.... The plastic insert was a "fix-it" answer for the first tungsten weights that were simply drilled for the line hole and were very bad about cutting the line. The weights have not been re-drilled now before the insert is installed and that is the main reason that they are cheaper to buy. Plus, many anglers have noticed that the soft plastic insert actually reduces the sensivity by absorbing most of the vibration of a strike. Tru-Tungsten noticed this and removed all the inserted weights from their product line. They are responsible for the "Insert Free" technology. If you want the most advantage of using tungsten weights, go the extra step and only use the "Insert Free" weights. All the tungsten weights we offer have been drilled, beveled and then diamond polished prior to painting and clear coating. We are so sure of this technology and the weights we offer that we have adopted the policy that "If you don't like 'em...We'll buy 'em back !! Check us out at www.affordabletungsten.com

you will really feel the differiance if you use braid. +1 Also, Tungsten just sounds a lot cooler to say then lead! 'I use tungsten....OR...I use lead'. Yep cooler!

FIsh it once and you'll never pick up a lead weight again. Try dominator lures they are cheap.

I fish both. When I can't afford tungsten I'll just throw 1/4 oz or less lead weights.
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.
