Will be going to kemah over memorial holidays never fished saltwater before and will be taking my CC boat closest thing I have fished was Texoma. Will anyone give me some tips as what type of structure to look for Interested in catching anything that will bite. Will there be dropoffs like lakes or just flat bottoms? Really hope for some input dont have a clue as to which way to point the boat.

hit up the seabrook flats...if you're brave just anchor on the right side of the kemah bridge....im an electrician and hung all the nav lights there....during that job i would see people fishing pulling up big drums and reds....as long as you stay out of the boat traffic you'll be ok...thats what those guys did...

Shrimp and Croakers for live bait and also dead Shrimp & mullet cut in chunks. Seen guys anchored on the end of the Boardwalk using live shrimp on a Carolina rig and catching sand trout and puppy drum fishing in the channel. Try the pilings of the old piers on the bay shoreline too using the same rig. May latch into some flounder or other species.

It's saltwater, but have never fished it. Sorry.

The spot Garfish is talking about is a 5 minute drive in boat or car from Clear Lake. Fishing the channel underneath the Kemah bridge is always good, just don't throw a cast net, the shrimp are protected right there. Also right at the outlet of that channel on the Bay side or Lake side always produces numbers when the tide is moving. I've lived in the Seabrook/Kemah/Clear Lake area all 20yrs of my life, been fishin that channel since I could toss a zebco

Fish the Bay. Galveston Bay, East Bay or Trinty Bay. Find the shell. Find the trout. Live bait makes it easier. Shell reef used to be marked by PVC stakes but I haven't been out since the hurricane.

I fish a 21 ft center console that is only 18 inches deep in the Galveston ship channel....It pitches and rolls, but as long as you let the anchor do it's job, bow into the waves, you will have no problems

Ive never fished there but just moved back to Tx and thought about trying there. Are Berkley Gulp any good? I know a guy here that swears by them but Ive never had much luck with artificials especially when it comes to salt water.

x2

I fished there in Kemah last weekend in my little 17' bass boat... When you get to the end of the channel, in a large swell situation, it gets a little uncomfortable... But as long as you're in the channel, you're fine...

If you're going East (towards the ocean), I had a lot of luck about half way down by a light... There are two gumball machines there on the boardwalk... There were 100's of fish down there... Also, if you go all the way to the end to the right, there's a tower that takes people way up in the air... Right on the other side of the railing there, I caught quite a few keeper reds and trout... Along with plenty of slimy cats... We fished live shrimp about 8 foot down... As you round the last corner before the ocean, it goes from ~23 ft to 8 ft in about 10 yards... I saw quite a few fish down there on that dropoff... Didn't get to explore it because there was a 6 foot swell that night that made staying in one spot quite difficult... Here is a map showing where I caught my keepers:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=29.548153,+-95.017397&num=1&t=h&ie=UTF8&ll=29.548087,-95.017399&spn=0.00164,0.002411&z=19&iwloc=A

I'm definitely no pro fisherman... Beginner is even a stretch... This is all new to me, but I hope my experience helps you even a little bit...

In the last week, catching has really picked up.. Flounder and redfish every Trip.. Sea trout catch will improve and get real good later in the fall. Clear Lake is great in the fall/early winter
