I'm looking for suggestions on a baitcaster to use for light weight lures. I have been using a spinning rig but getting tired of line knots from wind. I know there has to be a good reel for this. I've got Revo's (SX & SC) and Curados's (200 E7) but they don't seem to be the ticket here. While you're at it, which rod?
Thanks in advance!

I'm sure others will have good suggestions for you but for starters I think you can eliminate a lot of issues by tossing light lures on a baitcaster by simply taking off the breaks, undoing the bait control knob to the lightest setting and using the lightest line you can get away with. I'd imagine that if you spooled up with 8 pound test you would be fine for anything as light as 1/8 ounce gear. But anything less than 1/8 there really is no point for a baitcaster- just use a spinning setup. I have had no problem flipping tubes with 3/16 oz. weights on a baitcaster and 12 pound test line. But 1/8 oz. or less is a whole other story. Also- you will want a rod no heavier than a Medium Actiono.

I crank lots of small baits, have quite a few different rods and reels, but enjoy trying new stuff. I recently bought one of the Duckett 7ft.med. cranking rods (white ones) and put my 50 mg on it. I was so pleased with it I bought one of the Duckett 6'6" med. light cranking rods. I used my 50 mg on it and also a Curado 50E. I like the 50E on it better than the 50 mg. To me the 50E is one of the best reels I have used for shorter cast with light baits.
These cranking rods are not for heavy cover, but work well for most bank cranking and will handle larger fish with a little finesse and drag slip. I have caught a 5-9 on the 7ft. and a 4-8 on the 6'6". If you have a weightless worm rod try a small crank bait on it, you will be surprised at how well they work.
By the way, I use 30# Power Pro braid on both set ups.

I use a Shimano Calcutta 50 with 8 to 10 lb line for 3/16 and 1/4 lures with no problems.

Daiwa Sol and St. Croix Premier 7ft. Medium.
Not sure why your Revos and Curados would'nt work. Get with someone that can help you set them up properly and they should have you catching any day.

Daiwa Sol or a Shimano Chronarch 50mg are the top two that I would look at.

My Revo SX with a 7' med abu rod will launch the little 1/4 oz cranks I throw as far as I can imagine needing.

You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

This one if you find it or the Daiwa Sol are tops in this realm!

Thanks in advance! You didn't mention your price range but I have several Daiwa Steez and they will throw an 1/8 oz lure a long way with 12# fluoro. The Shimano Mg 50 also works very well but it is not a Steez... LOL

The Curados are way better for lighter line and lighter baits. Not as many backlashes.

This one if you find it or the Daiwa Sol are tops in this realm! I don't have any experience with the Sol, but I think the Pixy is the king for ultralight baitcasters. If you decide to get one, find a nice 7ft light action rod (I use a G-Blanks custom with mine) with micro guides. I'd also recommend the internals upgrade to move it to a Pixzilla class. I can throw 1/16 oz baits with mine using 8lb fluorocarbon with no problems. I like it much, much better than a spinning reel.

Thanks for the suggestions! I need to do some line changing and reel tuning! Too many reels with braid. Sounds like Daiwa is the favorite. I do have a Daiwa Viento but will look for a Pixy or Sol. I also like the micro guide idea! Does it need to be a light action or just a fast tip? Price range...I was wanting to stay under or around $200.
