 Released Red Snapper Survival Rate ?

Anyone have info on released red snapper survival rate. Some of the under sized snapper I caught and released last fishing trip did not look to healthy ( FLOATED ON TOP OF WATER ) . What can the fisherman do to help increased the survival of released fish .

After being on only 2 deep sea trips and seeing about 60% of the fish released floating, I would say not very good
(survival rate). After being brought up from deep water and then being thrown back in puts the fish in shock not to mention the air bladder usually pops out. You can pop the air bladder with a pin but besides that I don't think there's much we can do.

Not very good if you don't take the responsibility to puncture the air bladder so that they can return back to the bottom.
If you do ensure that the air bladder is not extended or puncture it to releive the excess pressure the survival rate would be 50/50 only because of larger preditor fish picking them off on the way back to the bottom.
The proper way to puncture the air bladder is described in the TPWD annual.
