My brother in law was driving around down in a field at my farm two weekends ago and unexpectedly drove off in a low spot and his truck high centered right underneath the cab. He has a 2008 single cab Dodge 2500 6 speed trans. Ever since he bumped the bottom of his truck on the ground, he has a clicking noise that occurs in first gear and in reverse right as he lets out the cluch and the truck starts to move. After the clutch has made contact and the truck is moving the sound goes away. Also, at 55 mph he gets a vibration. What could this be? He said that he has checked the motor mounts and all of them look in good shape and he said that his "U" joints look fine. Could his drive shaft be slightly bent?

The clicking sounds like U-joints to me. Not sure how he checked them, mine never looked any different when they were getting ready to go out... and believe me I looked at them. Also you are suposed to be able to feel play in the drive shaft, and mine was the same before and after the u-joints went out. Not sure about the vibration, maybe bent something, but the clicking sounds like u-joints to me.

He took it in last week and they found that he had sheered off two transmission bolts from bumping the ground when he high centered the truck. They are also going to replace the rear U joint because they said that it was worn from the transmission not being secure while driving it.
