I'm heading there in a couple of weeks for a family vacation. I would like to get in some fishing but I'm just about illiterate when it comes to saltwater fishing. I'm not sure I want to invest the money on a guide, but I would be willing to rent a kayak. I usually fly fish fresh water streams here in Texas, but I don't mind breaking out the spinning gear if that's what it takes. A part of me won't even mind getting skunked, but I would like to have some sort of plan. Can anyone here help me out with that plan?

Thanks for anything you can provide.
Perry

If you are just wanting to wet a line, then fish off the beach front. When we go down there, while the rest of the family is playing in the sand and surf, I wade down 30 or 40 yards away from everybody and catch whiting and such in the surf.

Just takes a bag of dead shrimp, a hook, weight and a cheap rod and reel.

I may do that too, but mostly I'd like to try my luck in the bay
