http://www.nctackle.com/avmxsere.html the Avet MXL6:1 .... It says max drag at 16 lbs. Are these like the other lever drag reels where you can adjust what the max drag setting is? ~I am thinkg of one of these instead of a Torium 20.... with the upgraded drag and plate- it gets pretty close in cost. I cant take it anymore.. I gotta have a couple offshore toys!

Yes, but the tighter you go the less freespool you get, just button down the cast brake once you're hooked up! -B

Ronnie,
Are you talking vertical jigging for Tuna or Bass? Reason I ask is that Avet has a new reel coming out, an SX 2speed. Will be available in a "narrow" version too! That's one tiny reel, but wouldn't that just flat winch some bass out of the grass in low gear!
If you are thinking about tuna jigging, you might consider the JX reel. I've been playing with Snagged's JX for the last two weeks and that thing is a perfect size for jigging, nice and narrow, and light to boot. It also works great for casting poppers! That thing has some great free-spool. Drag is probably more than the MXL, the JX gets 15lbs without losing freespool, and 20lbs max.

I have been practicing throwing tuna poppers on the lake with my LX which is mounted on a 7' Chaos rod and I can't believe how easy to handle it is. Makes the skiiers go to the other side of the lake when they see that 10" popper coming at them too!

lol... well I have been praying to the fish gods that I will miraculously somehow get a tuna trip in before the end of the year... ~I have been beating up every monkey I see!!!! ~And saying a spell over all the bananas every time I am in a supermarket!
This little Avet is gonna be for jiggin and maybe a live flyer... its gonna be mounted on a Trevalla( the heaviest one).
The topwaters are reserved for the spinning rig... next on the list... hehe. After throwing a spinning rig last year... I am hooked (its so simple and no backlashes) <----- wheres Galveston1602 to remind me of eating crow for saying the torium was better than a spinning rig for casting....lol.

Skeeter, A baitcaster will out cast a spinner. The problem with Avet is they spin so well backlashes are common.

I have problems winding spectra back onto a good quality baitcaster tight enough so that a good tuna does not cause the spectra to dig into itself. I'm sticking with a spinner for topwaters.
Good luck with your reel Skeeter. Enjoy it.

Lemme add that if you backlash badly with 80 lb hollow core JB, cut it out and then resplice it back together after you return home. That stuff is the bomb!!!

spinner is gonna be topwater... i will leave the Avet for the jiggin.... Unless the spiner explodes, then the Avet is backup for the Tuna Hunters... hehe. I did realize the difference last year in the Bass Pro popers compared to the good poppers...... the amount of splash.... and that matters when its so far out the only way to keep track of it is the splash.. lol. I am still amazed over how far Tony (the deckhand) was chunking those poppers!!!!

Congratulations on your getting Avet LX reel! I just got my Avet 30/2 Pro EX and it was sweet...can't wait to play with it real time. I'm also looking for LX for jigging as well, but I'm curious if the LX reel seat is same width as the Pro EX. The reason I'm asking is because the rod that I want the LX to go on is the wider version, same width that the Pro EX will fit.
