Though I wont tell the exact location, the surf between packery channel and port Aransas is on fire. This morning I caught good numbers of spanish mackrel, bluefish, lots of trout, a few reds, and 1 snook. Used electric chicken bass assasins. The water is very clear unlike the brown tide around the rest of corpus. Also, I have had good luck (trout) at Yarbrough pass the past two sundays. The topwater bite is on early and limetrusse bass assassins work the rest of the time.

Yes, you do find both in the same water. Hit both sides of the jetties and you'll add tarpon, kings and Jacks.

Where have you been Trout-Killer? I have not seen you around much lately? I am guessing with the conditions the way that they are, you could be found close to water, and not behind a computer monitor. Good to know that someone is doing well!

It's getting going up here in Galveston too. No Snook of course but guys have been getting easy limits of trout in the surf every day this week. There was also a Ling reported off one of the piers. We seem to be three weeks to a month behind on the standard patterns for the upper coast this year. April was just plain dull. It's good to see things are finally coming around. Got a tournament this weekend and heading out to prefish tomorrow. I've gotta' leave my tournament fish alone but I know a couple other spots where I think I can whack 'em! I should have a good report with plenty of pictures to post on Monday.

Crank-BB,
Are they getting 'em on artificials, or shrimp, or both?
Thanks,
-Pat

Thanks,
-Pat Both. Rumor has it the majority of the fish are running in the first gut but the main thing is just getting to the green stuff. Had a few buddies that went out earlier in the week and got 3 limits on artificials. My coworker came in this morning and he had been to check out the surf at Bolivar yesterday afternoon (he showed me pictures... it was FLAT). He tells me the green water was in the first gut, about waist deep. He saw guys getting bit every cast throwing shrimp under popping corks worked AGGRESSIVELY. He said they were ripping the corks hard three times, reeling in and repeating. Another guy fishing about 20 yards away was letting his cork sit and only catching one fish to their 4 or 5.

Crank-BB,
You are killing me! And here I am stuck at work. Looks like the wind is picking up toward the weekend. I'm probably gonna hit Surfside/SLP this weekend anyhow, even if it blows.
Thanks for the report. I'll take my plastics and try shrimp under corks...maybe freeline a few too! I love to "feel the take"...

in the port A surf live shrimp has been working the best. However, there is something in my head that wont allow me to throw anything but artificial. The potlickers caught their limmits quicker than me but I had more satisfaction with trying to find the right lure and succeding in it. I guess it is all fun though.

Whats up Justin? I have not been around because my computer has all kinds of viruses and it is a pain in the neck to be on it. Especially when I have to listen to a bunch of trash talk all the time. I guess I just got a little tired of it and needed a break. Now I am in the chatting mood again. Gonna try not to piss anyone off. I know some people are a little touchy around here.

Its all good Trout-Killer. I understand where you are coming from. I am going to try to squeeze in some fishing this weekend when I am in Houston. The 300 miles between me and the coast is killin me!

Dont let trout-killer fool you, he wasnt tired of the trash talk, he lives for it..lol.. Good report and the Electric chicken works like a champ!! I have done well with that color and the liquid shrimp fishing in the area that you speak of. Lots of snook have been coming out of the area too. Keep the reports coming Trout and I should be back down soon. I will probably be down by myself, so be looking for me to hit you up. I Plan on doing some trout fishing and hitting up the surf a bit. We have a baby due soon and that might mean more fishing for me since my wifes mom is in corpus. Either my fishing will increase or be shut down a bit. WE will see. Good to hear from you again and keep us posted till we can get back down. One last note, Justing and trout, we will be doing our annual October trip if you guys are up to it. A few of us head down the first weekend of October and just put a slaughtering on the bull reds and tarpon. If interested, keep your schedules free for that weekend and come join Jared and I. Rule is 20+ bull reds a person a day with quite a few slots mixed in. We have a secret for the slots but usually catch them right before heading in. See you guys soon

Sweet! I will definately keep that weekend free if possible. My work schedule is crazy sometimes, but they know that I have to get my fishing in, or else....lol. That sounds like a blast! I have not been further south that the Galveston area since last summer. I am definately ready. Let's get together closer to the date, and make some plans.

Sounds good. I am really interested in catching a tarpon on light tackle. Watch it on T.V. all the time but have never seen one around my parts. If either of you two come down in the next couple of weeks, try the surf. It is amazing right now. Email me and I will tell you exact locations.

Pie puncher and trout killer....as I read your posts with enthusiasm and jealousy, I wondered it either or both of you would mind forwarding some of your pro tips to a Kentuckian who has found his fishing mecca on the gulf coast of FLA. I fish for the pleasure and outdoor experience and my palet! I am not a tournament fisherman and enjoy anything that strikes an artificial lure.
I have relatively good luck on sea trout, sheepshead and small snook but for the life of me cannot locate many reds. I fish the ICW mainly as my boat is only 17' w/60 Merc, although I do fish the brackish rivers.
My trips usually are from Dec thru March. I know that limits my surf fishing as locals tell me that the snook and reds usually hit the beaches in April and May. I use mirrorlure topwater jerk baits, bass assasin grubs and flukes and various walking top waters. I would appreciate any tips or suggested methods and lures to try on my next venture to the FLA area. Email me direct if you should so choose and I will thank you in advance for any info forwarded. Good fishing to you and everyone else on this great site....../Mike)
