During this "discussion" there came up an issue on how much info should be divulged about swims or spots on the bank. The back and forth presented the concerns on why carp anglers are more secretive about their locations because the carp is an unprotected fish under the law. Although some of these concerns border on paranoia in my opinion, they were honestly expressed indicating a sense of respect for this maligned fighting fish. I believe the carp anglers won the argument because they stood up and presented their assertions and opinions based on experience and understanding the cultural environment that exists in this state. This part of the thread should have stayed in place in keeping with the American spirit for debate, free speech and our abhorrence for censorship and propoganda (BullChit).

Normally, I'd let Zach's post referencing the rules stand as the end of this discussion. However, since I was personally referenced, I feel I should at least give my reasons and opinions, and let that be the end of it.

...Everyone involved in the "argument" was a carp angler. The mod who removed the offending portions? Also a carp angler. ( And a multi-species angler who enjoys catching everything that swims. )

BankAFish? Is a carp angler. Keith asked him not to mention the location, and he did anyway. ( Even though Keith himself had given a general idea. ) Regardless of that, BankAFish is in fact, a carp angler. Therefor, no one "won" anything lol, least of all the "Carp anglers" because literally everyone actively involved in the discussion? ...Was in fact a carp angler.

The argument that "devolved" from the original debate was about whether or not locations should be shared. Keith requested no one mention it exactly, and Bankafish did just that. However, as it is a public forum, that is his right, and he is also a carp angler. Even in mentioning a spot after it be requested not to be exposed, despite it being a well known spot, BankaFish should be still be afford a modicum of respect.

There's no need to suggest he belongs in another section, or anything more insulting that may have been said. Throughout the extent of the argument the comments grew increasingly derisive and insulting. I don't like seeing that here, as it makes the carp and rough fish angling community look like a bunch of elitists. I don't like that. That's not who we are, and we shouldn't promote ourselves that way.

No, I don't think BankaFish should have mentioned the location, simply because Keith requested it not be made none. However, I also do not think people should have jumped down his throat for it.

Furthermore, Keith himself requested the Thread be cleaned up. As Keith was the original poster, his request was honored, and the argument was removed.

It comes down to this. Many years ago, I co-founded the Lone Star Carp Brigade with Zach, and have really enjoyed watching it grow and grow and grow. But one thing I can't stand is seeing good threads all about fishing dissolve into petty arguments and sniping. It drove me and many others away from CAG, and I won't let it drive folks away from here the same way.

The OP requested the thread be cleaned up, and I cleaned it up.

End of story. Now please, let's get this thread back on track!

I didn't see the most recent comments since they were removed. jeesh...did it get ugly or something? bummer... frown

Last point and I'm done. And yes I will stay mainly in the catfish & bank fishing forums from now on, I promise. wink Keith mentioned "down town ft.worth" I mentioned "please...it's down town ft.worth!" as in who couldn't tell where it was!?!?! smile lol in a joking fashion. I never once gave a street or gps location where he was fishing other than "downtown ft.worth". I went on to suggest other locations in ft.worth away from Keith's swim, so that other "urban fishing" anglers could check it out. Unfortunately other viewers probably didn't look at the entire thread and see that Keith had already posted where he was fishing. So they assumed I was giving away his location which I simply did not.

In any event, I've been fishing in DFW for quite a while and some of you know me personally and know I was involved with rough fishing in the DFW area pretty much when it started to explode and probably turned more than a few of you on to rough fishing in the DFW area. wink

One thing I've learned over the years is that the carp/buffalo fishing in DFW and Texas would not have exploded the way it did if it wasn't for sharing information. Sure bow fishing sucks...and I even had personal threats years ago from all the bs I caused about it. But it's legal, and we have to deal with it. I'm getting old and now I have no problem telling any rough fish angler where to catch 20-30-40lb carp. I'm all about sharing information, and I will continue to do so on TFF, but just not in this forum area. wink

Good luck guys, keep at it, in the end, we all want the same thing, the chance to catch a monster fish and have our children the same chance. wink
