I am moving from Iowa to Friendswood in the coming months and will be at a lost for places to go fishing. I don't own a boat (yet) so would be shore fishing, anybody have any places or spots that would be a good place to go. What are my best options to catch some fish.

Welcome to Texas! There are a lot of ponds in parks around the area as well as in the subdivisions that may hold a few fish. My buddy hits one up on the north side and catches bass all of the time out of it! He always tells me after he gets home, need to work on him about that.

Anywhere in the Houston area will be very crowded, especially at night along the coastline. To get away from the people, you will need to get at least an hour away from Galveston/Friendswood/League City. You can try it at night, but from what I hear, its a lot of crossed lines and hardheads in the most popular areas. The lakes are safer bets as far as not being as crowded, but the fishing (in most cases) will not be as exciting. I can't tell you where to go, I can just tell you where not to go!

I'm not a chick.

Welcome to Texas. Being in Friendswood will put you closer to the salt. Lots of options for fishing off the Texas City Dike, Galveston jetties, and surf fishing. There are a lot of wade fishing options in Galveston West Bay also. Fresh water options are neighborhood ponds and most of the bayous hold some fish. Good luck.

Thank you everybody for the useful information. I am orginally from the great state of Texas, but it has been many years since I have been back. Yes i am going to miss fishing up here as well, the walleye are starting to hit pretty good right now and the main thing I will miss will be the ice fishing. There is something about pulling a nice bass, crappie or walleye out of 7 inch hole with a pole that is only about a foot long.

Challenger 7 Park has a nice fishing area that is basically a ghost town monday through thursday. They consistently stock with catfish and there are 1-3lb bass caught outta there. Be sure to have your license!

I live in western League City; about .5 mile from the Friendswood city limits. Texas Parks and Wildlife There are some ponds at Centennial, Challenger and Rustic Oaks parks.
You have to go several hours to a freshwater lake of any real size (Conroe, Livingston, Sam Rayburn).
Saltwater fishing is the obvious choice. Lots of opportunities for wade/bank fishing. Never go wade fishing alone, and read up on the saltwater shuffle!
Academy is the local sporting goods store; they'll have maps for the coast with highlights for wading saltwater.
