IMHO, so-so. When they are generating, the stripers cen be pretty awsome below Buchanan Dam sometimes. There are enough largemouth and spotted bass in the main lake to keep you interested in beating the bank. I met a couple fishing out of a tandem the last time I was there that caught a 7-lb largemouth in the process of spawning. He showed me the photos. I met up with them on the water later, and he showed me the fish on the bed(after I promised not to try to catch her). I was amazed that the fish returned to the same exact spot after being caught. The main draw of Inks is all the hill country scenery and related activities.

Yeah, I forgot about Tyler. A real pretty, small, East Texas lake. Close enough for a day trip. Everything Trout Bum said, plus lots of shelters, a DORBA(mountain bike) trail, and the biggest, meanest raccoons you've ever encountered. They remind me of a German Shepherd! And you're within driving distance of First Monday.

I have had more luck on the fishing pier then on the yak, but I didn't make it up to below Lake Buchanan and I was just targeting LMB. Did catch about a 7 lbr from the pier. But it is a very nice lake to paddle, especially the Devil's Backbone area.

Fished it from the bank before my yak. Caught several but saw some huge ones by the dam.

In order, ranking the water bodies I have paddled/floated, while launching at Texas State Parks. Note, these are the only parks I have been to and paddled.

Guadalupe S.P. -- get past the swimming kids, and we had the guad all to ourselves. A very fun float, either above or flow.
Goose Island S.P.
Martin Dies Jr S.P.
Caddo S.P.
Fort Parker S.P. -- I think this is at the end of the limestone paddling trail.
Tyler S.P. -- really small
Fort Boggy S.P. -- really small
Isle Du Bois at Ray Roberts S.P. -- I fish this during the crappie spawn. If the fish aren't shallow, it is hard to fish this, unless there isn't much wind or from the S.
Mineral Wells S.P. -- I thought the hike was better than the paddling. Didn't catch anything either.
Tawakoni S.P. -- My favorite lake, but that area is too heavily used for kayaking. Also it isn't protected enough.
Mustang Island S.P. -- All I did was crash and burn in the waves.

If I had my way, I would go experience Garner SP in the fall this year. Colorado Bend also looks great.

We stayed at Cooper Lake S. Sulpher unit last Aug. They have screened shelters, limited use cabins, and cabins. We stayed in a limited use cabin that was by the water and had a great time. We used kayak cart to get to the water but lake was only 3' low then and it is 8' low now. Suprisingly not many skiers or jet skis consindering it was summer. Went looking for hybrids but only caught 1 keeper. Did fill a 94 qt and a 55 qt cooler with blue cats though. After first day we threw back anything smaller than 18" or bigger than 24".
