Fished a workingman tournament last night which was a shotgun start. We were the first ones headed back into a canal that was wide enough for one boat. However behind us comes another bass boat and follows us almost to the back of a canal. They are fishing next to us within 10ft the whole time. Then they ask to pass us to go to the very back of the canal which is only another 40 yards down. Let me remind you my boat was parallel to the bank and touching the bank just so they would barely have enough room to pass.

They get right past us and start fishing again instead of going to the back like they had said. They hook into about a 2.5lb bass.

I was a little upset and felt that was unsportsment like conduct. However they still did not win any money in the tournament.

Just want to know your thoughts on this situation.....

Thanks,,

That was kind of my opinion on it as well. Next time i will speak my mind. If anyone fishes the Granbury tournament, beware!

The way I interpret the situation and rules, is anyone can fish as close to you as they want until you say something.

Too bad there wasn't a handy supply of bushel basket size boulders on the bank to roll in on your way out.

Report it to your tournament director and let him handle it, thats his job. However, BMCD is right... you need to tell them they are to close, depending on the rules for your particular tournament that may be 25 yards or 50 yards. When they cross that boundary you need to let em know they are to close, then if they continue without consent report them to the TD. If they arent in the money there still needs to be a record of the event in case it happens again so that more strict measures can be taken by the TD. Even if its just a workingmans tournament a tournament directors job doesnt become any less than it does at a large trail event on the weekend... but anglers have to handle these situations the right way on the water and properly report it at the ramp, otherwise the rules really dont matter.

I had one get so close he bumped my boat and knocked me out just said woops and went on fishing. This was 6 years ago in the McDonalds when I told Bob Sealy he needed to put a distance rule in again he said there were too many boats to do that. I haven't fished that tournament since.

I would have turned the boat sideways and said no to that request.

This one was easy, you let him pass so he now has the right of way. I'm not trying to be hard but why in the world in such a small creek did you agree to let him pass you?

rules are rules..it should be reported to let it be known a violation has been done...if you are fishing a tournament you signed a weiver that says you have read the rules...never done it before but thats what a 1 once jig is tied on one of my rods..

I would have been upset and said something. Just handle it cool and most of the time when you confront someone that will be the end of it.

I don't understand why people always wait to come here to bitch about someone fishing too close. Man up and tell them then.

There are limits and that is way beyond them. Tell them no and you don't appreciate them crowding you. I hate arses like that and do everything I can to crowd them out.

Retirement best job ever.
