I bought a state parks pass so I could get in to Cedar Hill, but I'd also like to find some other good kayak fishing parks to try out. Any recommendations near enough to DFW to make a day trip out of it? I was thinking about Cleburne...

For about the same distance you drive to Cleburne try Purtis Creek, much nicer paddle with lots of timber in the water.

Cleburne is a nice park and great paddling lake. I have a difficult time fishing it because the water is so clear.

Meridian is a nice park. Lake can be touch and go sometimes. I've caught some nice bass out of it but in dry conditions, it gets pretty low and the fishing goes to pot.

I would have to put Inks Lake batting leadoff due to the large number of camp-sites on the water and the scenery with tons of things to do.
We really like Fairfield, but it is falling in the ranks because of the fishing. Numerous sites on the water.
Ray Roberts(Johnson Branch) offers plenty waterfront sites and pretty good fishing for several species.
Meridian is a nice park and lake, but the waterfront sites are shelters(no RV's on the water).
Lake Whitney is nice, but the water is open and can get pretty hairy.
Cedar Hill if you don't mind the city traffic.
Mineral Wells is good, but very few waterfront sites.
I really want to do Purtis Creek.

Oh, I'll be doing some camping as well, I appreciate your opinions. The shelters at meridian may be just what I need, since I don't have an RV and my wife won't tent

Try Ft. Parker State Park. The Limestone Bluffs Paddle Trail includes both the lake and the Navasota River just above it. Great fishing and beautiful scenery.

Yeah, I thought about Fort Parker. I've camped there a couple of times, couldn't really remember much about the lake.
