I caught 2 25-30lb fish on a jugline that was set in 15 ft. of water but the fish were no deeper than 8 ft of water. they were on the same jug first 2 hooks.

i'd keep em under 15 or so this time of year
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Are you guys talking floating lines? Or the weights on the bottom and the hooks set at 15'. I'm wanting to do some jug lines this spring on Proctor.

Anchor mine with i/3 of brick. set in 20 feet of water with 12-15 feet of line and two hooks, I then allow them to drift into a windy point until they bottom out and anchor themselves, 1/3 brick allows them to float until they anchor themselves. I have had very good luck this season up to now like this, I will shorten the lines (5-7 ft of line 2 hooks)and follow same procedure by the end of this month. Good luck to you!

For big ones, I woudl set jugs at 10-15'. For eaters, I would first try the 4-10' range.
If I am sitting in my boat near my jugs, I free float them. If I plan to leave and run them later, I anchor them with a brick or part of a brick.

I use 3oz sinkers for mine, chasing 'em down is half the fun!

I have 30 that i free float with 5' line and a 1oz egg weight to slow down the drift but I also have six or so that I anchor during the summer in 50' of water with five hooks five feet apart coming starting from the bottom. On the stationary ones i normally catch blues 5# to 15# usually on the top three hooks.
