I'm going to be in Bryan for a few weeks helping another superintendent until my project starts in Huntsville about mid May. Gibbons Creek is close to either town, anyone do any crappie fishin on it or is it mainly just a bass fishery?
Thanks,

I have crappie fished Gibbons before. There are a couple of spots that will usually produce for you. When you go launch there is a group of trees, stumps, ect in the water along the shore to the right if you are facing out from the boat ramp. You can usually work some of that structure and find some crappie, it goes all the way around the point. We have caught good crappie on some of the deeper trees around the point, there are usually brush piles on some of the deeper trees.
The second place is near the Dam. There is a row of orange markers, that keep you from getting to close to the dam, just work along the bouy's until you find what depth they are at. Also down by the dam, to the left is a group of trees kinda isolated that usually produces crappie, however get there early as it is a community hole.

kudos to you jackso3 for sharing that info....I'm sure that will go a longggggggggggggggg ways! I'm sure i'm not he only one that would agree, other than hiring a guide, that type info would help a fellow out as myself and many others that for one reason or another, can't get out and do the necessary homework to hone in on the crappie....so having that type info would narrow down the areas to fish, and bring a smile upon one's face...thx again and have a blessed day

Thanks jacks03, with the info you gave and Lowrance sidescan/downscan I should be able to find the brush.

Only thing I can add to jackso3 tips is this....
Gibbons crappie for reasons I have never quite understood frequent only certain spots......they are on 'particular' brushpiles or stumps year after year and they always avoid other closeby brushpiles or stumps even though they're in the very same area and water depth.
Anotherwords, if you don't get bit, just keep moving around just a ways but not too far.... even 20 feet over may change your luck. I fished out there a couple frustrating seasons without getting bit much until I learned this.

Lou r Pitcher....you are so right....even when you figure this out....sometimes they don't bite at all on Gibbons. I think it must have something to do with the plant and when they circulate water. To me...Gibbons is one of the most unpredictable lakes I have ever fished...I still fish it causes its close to the house.....but do better if I just drive the extra few miles to Sommerville. Wish I knew more .....
