I have been fishing this lake the last 3-4 years with no real success. The last 4 trips 1 female crappie. Caught 1 6.9lb black bass 5 weeks ago.I fish both minners & jigs. I would love to fish ray bob but with the price gas the hr & 1 /2 drive make it too far. So before I dump all this craapie stuff in the trash can & go back to bass fishing.Any suggestions on a lake close to south west ft worth. Iget soooo pissed when I see pictures of buckets & drives covered with fish, after I spent 5 hrs & not even a nibble yesterday & did I mention the lake was so smooth you could fish any where from the dam to the back of Rocky Creek. That is a rare day on Benbrook. Sorry for the ranting. I just had to get it off my chest.

PM Sac-lait-Pat. He can help you with that lake. If you can afford hiring a guide PM Kerry Dugan.

I too can relate to that. I have been after them for 4-5 years and still have not figured them out. I was out on Saturday as well and as calm as it was did not even get a nibble. You have done better than me, havent even touched a slab from there this year. Its too close to home thats why i deep going back.

Benbrook has plenty of crappie in it. Right now they are up in the shallows doing their thing. You can catch them up shallow in the back of coves or hit them in the staging areas in 12-17 deep water fishing submerged timber near the creek channels running into the coves.

If you are a bank fisherman, the fishing will be tougher as there is very limited access to good crappie areas from the banks. You can fish the rip-rap at the dam for your best chance at catching them.

As mentioned before, shoot Pat an IM. He's a nice fellow and fishes the lake often.

benbrook is one of THE best crappie lakes in north texas. brushpiles are the key. brushpiles on points or humps produce the biggest quality. you need brushpiles in 10' - 17' of water. some in all water columns. Some days they are shallow, and some days they are deeper. each day is different, and I used to have to move around from each pile as the day progressed. I had to follow them up to shallow and back to deep many times throughout the day, as they were moving around. If the sandbass move in, move to another pile and come back later.

Get a hold of Pat and start asking for some pointers or a trip out on his rig. Tell him you'll buy him a meal or whatnot for his troubles. grin

Pat has Benbrook down. The wind jacked up the creeks this past weekend so it wasn't very productive. Don't give up on Benbrook--she is a tough lake to learn but remember gas is almost $4 a gallon!!

I have gotten some croppie up in Rocky Creek this time of year. Maybe a quarter mile up the creek past the park.

I have "attempted" to eat catfish out of this lake and all
the deep frying in the world couldn't rectify the taste of my stringer of otherwise normal looking channel cats. How are the crappie?
