I just got back! Fished out of Crocodile Bay....it was awesome...fished 3 days.
Each man got a sail and a bonus marlin....
Our guide knew sailfish were slow so we hammered the tuna and durado...
I am already planning another trip back....
Best fishing of my life....bring good sun screen the sun is very intense down there....we were on the Pacific side way south...
Good luck

I just got back last night! You are going to Quepos, which is the best area for billfish. I bet you do well there. I fished out of Tamarindo which is much further north and got blanked. The area I was in is suffering from way too much commercial fishing pressure. I met a local who was first mate on a boat in Quepos for a while. He told me that in one day they raised 47 sailfish and released 32. I wish I had made it to Quepos, it's regarded as the best billfishing spot in Costa Rica. Do yourself a favor and take a couple rods for fishing inshore. I caught all kinds of fish from the beach behind our resort. Snook, jacks, roosters, and snapper are common. I caught this fish on a Lucky Craft Sammy behind our resort. 12 lb. test. If you want to PM me, I'll give you all the info that I can...

[font:Comic Sans MS][color:#CC0000]I've been to Quepos quite a few times. If you're flying into Quepos from San Jose, make sure your baggage weight limit is on spot. They only allow you 25 pounds.
Be careful stepping off the sidewalks on the side streets. The drainage ditches are a long way down.
Go to Manuel Antonio Park. Have lunch on the beach. The monkeys will keep you company.
In general, the fishing is off the hook, the food is great, best coffee in the world, and the night life can be what I would call. . .memorable. Don't forget your camera.

southern costa rica has great fishing from around Nov thru May but not year round. The amount of rain that comes down starting May turns the water pretty green and billfish move out and up north to blue water where it stays blue until sometime in Sept. the whole thing slides back and forth during the season changes. Not to say you won't run into some good fishing in the south from May thru Sept but the green water is not conducive to billfishing. Roosterfish and snapper love the green as well as most inshore species except the wahoo, he likes it blue. Just ask the locals about water color to find out which species are available

I went one time , years ago, fished two days offshore and one day inshore At Golfito . I enjoyed the inshore fishing most. We caught two sails and Two large dorado offshore. Numerous snapper and jacks Inshore. No rooster fish which was a disappoint . If I ever go back , it will be just for the inshore fishing.

We fished Last summer in Costa Rica out of Golfito. We went down to the owners of DSH and Fins' place. It was great. We had multiple sails each day with more dodos and tuna than we could catch. I tried rooster fishing with their son, but all we got was jacks. Not much help for where you are fishing, but it was great. Can't wait to go back!

I went out on a panga a couple years ago in the Papagayo area which is NW Costa Rica on the Pac. No billfish, but we got into tuna, dorado, rainbow runner, and wahoo. I'd love to go back and try another area for marlin.

I'd love to go back and try another area for marlin. We did that in Panama. $150 for a "captain" for 2 days in a panga. We went out fishing one day and caught a bunch of smaller yf. Then went snorkeling the 2nd day. Great times. Don't have to be in a big fancy boat to have a good time.
