I think I have everything I need for the first kayak fishing run. I don't have my sonar hooked up yet, but I'll find a fish the old fashioned way. Got my stakeout pole, 7 feet of PVC that I cut out of my attic (it's an abandoned air compressor line from a previous tenant). Got my 3lb walmart dumbbell anchor. I couldn't find a milk crate s I'll have to make due with a bucket. Tomorrow, Joe Pool is going to give it up.

The wind is really strong, try to find a cove or creek out of the wind, it will push you out into the main lake fast if not careful. Good Luck, Be Safe Congrats on your maiden voyage!
Slow down, you move to fast

I probably should use sunblock, but I definitely need to find a good hat.

I probably should use sunblock, but I definitely need to find a good hat. More like you should 100% use it even on a overcast day, that is one thing I refuse to go fishing without. I have gotten some horrible sunburns when I had forgotten my sunblock, that is a must for all kayakers I think.

Duly noted. I used to work outside a lot, but now I spend more time in attics I think. I probably would get a nice burn.

I've never had a stake out pole, anchor, or milk crate and Ive been catching fish out of kayaks for several years. All you need is a couple fishing poles and some lures plus your safety items

Sunburn is just the beginning, my grandfather fished 30 years straight down in FL, no thought for sunscreen if it was even a readily available product then, I'm not sure that it was. Anyways, the top of his nose and ears looked like a Tyson got a hold of it, the sun spots/skin cancer getting cut away year after year when he got older, just nibbled it away. Da sun ain't no joke maen!

I remember my maiden voyage about 9.5 months ago. Good luck to you.
I hate sunblock and don't like getting the greasy hands then handling bait and tackle, or tying knots. I have started wearing a thin cotton long sleeve pearl snap shirt. It stillkeeps you cool as long as it's breezy and you don't have to worry about reapplying sunblock all the time. Don't have to worry about lack of wind or breeze here lately so I've been staying unburned yet cool in my long sleeve, even today on the water in 95 degree heat

Well, I caught a delicious bass today It was windy as heck, but I managed to make my way about the lake a bit. Took the wife and kids to Cedar Hill state park, and let them play at the swimming area while I got blown around. I need a stiffer stakeout pole, that PVC wasn't working too well in the high wind. When I was taking my one bass of the hook, I was getting pushed int the grass that I was fishing out of and another bass jumped out of the water and hit me in the back.
