I have been in the Tyler area for about a year and a half and have done most of my fishing on Lake Tyler or Palestine. I have the week off and was wondering about a good small lake in East TX. I was thinking Tyler State Park, but can you launch a boat there? Or is there something better?

Tyler state park is nice. you can launch a boat there, just no wake and no big motor.. also there is purtis creek in Eustace... You can still get a boat in on Lake Nacogdoches on the west side.

I put a boat in TSP sometime around February with no problem. All the above lakes are great lakes within an hour and a half of Tyler. I would also add Lake Bellwood to that list of small lakes. There is a good boat ramp, but the road getting there will beat the heck out of you. It is considered a city park and it closes at dark.

Perky, Gilmer, and Lonestar for "small" lakes.

I would put Mill Creek on that list. You will normally have the lake to yourself and it has produced a few big uns. Also Winnsboro is not bad. Even Quitman will produce a nice fish or two.
