As you said both get the job done, I've had both, and they do hold you anchored.

I know the Talon has an alarm it you start the motor (assuming you hook it up), but I would like to see what happens when you take off with both Talons deployed! I have seen videos where this is done with the power pole and the pressure relief valves prevent damage to the powerpole or the boat.

I was 100% sold on the Talons, but have decided to spend my money on two powerpoles. Although the Talons are probably just fine with a few precautions in mind, I feel more comfortable with a little more history behind the product.

Here is my opinion and look at the last words I write. I have used my talon maybe 5 or 6 fishing days and here is what I have encountered:

1- the infamous hardware problem loosening
2- it was a nightmare getting an adapter plate
3- I actually lost my spike out of the unit. I tried to raise the unit up and it beeped weird at me. I looked back and my spike disappearing in the water below me. The rest of the day (during a tournament) I drove with water coming out of every orifice on the unit because it would not retract entirely.

My experience with Minn kota in the past has been great, I love my fortrex and I do not have a negative thing to say about it. I called Minn Kota to get a new spike and they told me I would have to take it to a Minn Kota repair center. They were not going to send me a new one until I told them I wanted to send the talon back. The woman put me on hold and then said she would mail me a new spike...... The last words I will say is that my Talon is FOR SALE,, pm me if you are interested. I'm going with a power pole.

I have also USED both products and both do what they were designed for. Both have their pro's and con's. I have not lost power to my Talons yet but if I do, I carry a wrench and a ratchet and will raise it with the nut manually. I have lost hydrallics on one of my P Poles via a hole in the hose. What an all around mess. The switching of Talons versus P Poles is not an issue. Talons come with 2 remotes and holders which can simply be mounted on the console and the bow. Both easily reached and are actually easier to use. The video on You Tube has no bearing on what either product was designed for. The video on the Talon bracket flex?? What's that about. My P Pole bracket flexed also, possibly not as much but still flexed. (If you stand with your legs slightly apart or spread apart, when pushed from front or back you're going to fall, either way) As far as holding power in heavy winds like we've been having lately, Talons are by far the better product. P poles tend to walk in heavy winds. During the last two outings to the Minnow Bucket for weigh-in I pulled my boat up to the walk-way dropped my Talons in rough water mode, weighed in, ate, visited ect. went back to my boat and it had not moved. Wouldn't do that with my P Poles without staying with it for fear it would end up under the walk-way in the rocks. (You know what kind of wind we've had lately coming into the M.B.) Keep in mind P Poles were desinged for flats fishing and Talons for Bass fishing. Matter of fact if I remember correctly, P Poles were first rated (sized)according to length of boat. Most, if not all Bass boats were recommended to use 6' poles. Having used both products, to date my boat will always have Talons on them. Both are great products, both have their flaws, and if you can afford either product I recommend you purchase which ever you are comfortable with. I'm sure you'll appreciate either.

Unless you drop them into the trees..

You should learn to sell your product without having to resort to ripping on a competitors product. It's much classier.

As for the debate, they both serve their purpose and they both have their problems. Anyone that tells you that either product is 100% fault free and never has issues is flat out lying to you. That is a fact because I have seen it with my own eyes.

I don't have either but don't get exactly who Cody is ripping. You must know him and what he uses. Sounds like he is just bringing up how one or both could be used in the situation. Never thought of it but if I were in the market and fished Falcon it would be something to think about. May be helpful to 09Skeeter.

Just had a Talon installed on my Cougar and I love it. Fished in 25 mph wind today and it worked flawlessly. I'm finding uses for it that I never dreamed of before. I'm sure a PP is just fine but wouldn't work for me because I need to be able to remove it occasionally. Once in a while my Kitty does double duty pulling kids on tubes.

By the way, mine fits in my garage just fine without having to remember to lower it first. Not that I would ever forget. Just saying.

Pure observatioin on my part, as I have no experience with either of them, but am very interested in them.....While at the Bassmater elite at T-Bend Sat, I paid attention to what the 50 pro's had....did not see every boat, but saw at least 40 of them......they all had power pole....don't recall seeing a Talon in the mix.....just and observation though.....

Forgive my ignorance... but I have not owned a "real" bass boat since PPs became popular.

Based on some of these posts... they can be used for "emergency brakes" as well as stabilizer/anchors?

I read somewhere that pros were given Power Poles in exchange for patches on their shirts. Don't know if this is true, maybe Cody knows? That would certainly explain the number of pros with pp's compared to Talons.

Good thread, I would like one of these anchors and am still undecided.

I see the advantages to both designs but in the end went with PP due to the fact that my boat won't fit in my garage at home or storage shed at Fork with the Talons up. Too tall...

Probably the thing that ultimately sold me on their durability was the Youtube video a guy posted a couple weeks back showing the PP on the airboat where they were TRYING to break it running the boat up on dry land repeatedly at speed. Pretty impressive.
