Never thought it would happen to me.

Coming to a halting stop with 4ft waves from lake Austin boat traffic sent my crankbait rod into my hand while holding on to the boat rail handle.

Lucky I was with my good friend Clint Wright who knew the fishing line trick (65 Power Pro).

Thats back to back months of milestones (March - 10lber, April - Hook in hand)

On a scale of 1-10, how bad was -

A - The pain when the hook went into your hand???

B - The pain of getting the hook out???

I've seen the "line" trick done and it looks like it would still hurt like hell!

How did you guys do with the fishing?

Alton - Pain factor increased as time went on with the hook in the hand, I'd say about a 7. I'm tough though. Pulling it out did not hurt, I was just concerned about what happens if the trick didn't work. Once the hook is out,I was good and started drop shotting instantly.

Fishing was good.

Passing the barb is my biggest fear! I think I'd rather be in a sinking boat than have a hook in me.

Glad you guys made it through the ordeal and had a good time.

The string trick is awesome, I didn't even feel it pop out.

What's the line trick? I've been lucky enough to not get a hook deep enough in me to have the barb under the skin.

if done correctly there is no pain because the barb is not making contact with anything..great trick to know. unfortunatly had to use it several times...

I had a treble hook covered in chicken liver hit me in the same exact spot, but it went through, and through so I just cut the barb off, pulled it out, and cleaned it. THOROUGHLY

Pulling the hook out using the line method is almost painless. It's the trying not to move the bait around getting ready to use the line, or taking the other hooks off the bait while it's still in your hand that hurts so much.

Been there done that. Glad it worked out okay. As an eight year old had to dig a Smithwick Rogue out of my Dad's head. Been hooked myself with a hot spot and a crankbait. Luckily I didn't pass out when I pushed it through.

It hurts like a B either way.
