Question.? If you were gonna wade Texoma for Stripers this weekend, what fly would you use? And what line: Full Sink, Intermediate, or floating. I only have floating line, but just curious. I'll probably bring my yak, so the same questions apply for that situation.
If all else fails, I'll just catch some bait, cast out my "shark" poles, grill some food, and drink some beer. However, I would love to catch one on a fly. There have been times when the action is non stop on live bait, but man I have yet to hook one on a fly.

I am not that familiar with all the lake, but in the parts I have been on, it is not conducive to wading. If the stripers are not on top in the middle of the lake chasing shad, they seem to in habit steep, rocky shorelines and stay pretty deep.

They will be DEEP this time of year. If you can even find them within casting range, I'd throw a full sink or intermediate for shallower fish. I've done great on larger baitfish imitations, like clousers, deceivers, seaducers, and other saltwater streamers.

The problem with wade fishing Texoma is it is a big lake and Stripers like to roam around. Usually the fish are following the bait. Stripers are working some of the sandy points early in the morning. 2 to 20 ft. of water. You might find some Sandbass mixed in with them. Birds might tell you a good area to fish. Remember Stripers are working more towards the upper ends of the lake right now. They waiting for rain, so they can spawn. 60% chance tonight. Right now Texoma needs some major rain in the Red and Washita basins. Good Luck!!

Hire Scott and take me with you. I'm ready for rain and huge striper on the fly action.

Scott Bridges you say... Ok, I'll give him a ring. Would an 8wt suffice for Texoma stripers?

I use a 6 or 8 wt. depending upon conditions. Got some rain last night in both the Red and Washita drainage. Not enough, but it's a start. Going to be punished today with 25 to 40 mph winds. That's OK I'll take it for more rain.

Do Texoma guides know how to do the rain dance, Scott? We have a guy on the Guadalupe we call the VP of Precipitation who gets out his tom-toms every once in awhile. We might all need to learn how to dance to change our weather patterns.

Here's the URL for Scott's site. http://www.guidetexoma.com/Scott can find some fishes. If he can't then everyone on the lake might as well have stayed home. That's been my experience at any rate.

Last summer while monitoring yip yappy kids and a tail wagger I waded the flats at burns run and caught scads of small skeleton stripers right near the shore when there was 3' ft of water with rocks ...
but those aren't the real stripers anyway..
you got the same activity wading the rocks of Eisenhower, whih is more awesome if you like that sort of thing.

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

I think you got some of your rain wish...along with those nasty circular winds that sometimes accompany it. The line of storms blew across the upper catch basins last night. I don't know how much rain fell, but some had to fall...
Never fished with Scott. Might have to give him a try.

Steve Hollensed is a great guide option on Texoma. His Web site: http://www.flywaterangling.comAlso, I know that some of the Washita Point area has produced some consistent wade fishing (past years) during the month of May.

Well the easy answer is yes you can wade if you can find access. I exclusively wade the banks at Texoma this time of year.
I've been out the past couple weekends. It may be a bit early for striped bass this time of year, although I was killing them from the bank at this time last year. I can tell you that I fish on the east side of the lake and the stripers have not arrived yet. Now the west side of the lake may be a different story.
The only problem with bank fishing this time of year is the wind. It was absolutely whipping from the north on Saturday morning. Nearly impossible to cast if you were fishing from the south bank.
For the line type, I use a intermediate sinking line. The fish are typically deeper, so you need to get the fly down. Once the weather starts to get hot, I'll swtich to floating line for top water action.
I'm throwing clousers and leach/bugger patterns now. All are weighted with lead eyes or beads. The beauty of fishing these patterns now is that they are also good for smallies and largemouth. I picked up some really good smallies off the bank this weekend (about 15 inches and well fed).
The last bit of advice I have is to align your expectations to your success rate. There are good days and bad days. Don't expect to go out there on any random day and expect to have a +30 fish day. I have been skunked many times, but mostly because I wasn't patient and didn't cover enough water. When those +30 fish days do happen, it makes the effort that much more rewarding.
Good luck and tight lines
