Got on the water Wednesday at 7:15am and headed straight to an area that I knew had some submerged shallow grass. Started throwing a topwater Trixie Shark, then a hollow body frog without a single strike. Moved to the pads at the southwest end of the lake and had the same luck. Threw a shallow diving crankbait here and there, without getting touched. Threw a lipless crank in 6 to 10 feet of water; nada. Moved to the east side trying pads, grasslines, and open water; nada. Even tried a jerk bait; nada. Tried a spinnerbait; nada. Worked some trees in the water with shallow cranks; nada.

After 3 hours, I decided I was wasting my time and left. I get days off during the week now and Raven is within 45 minutes of home. With gas going through the roof, Raven is a place I can go without spending a ton on money and get away from the never ending southeast Texas winds. Unfortunately I cannot seem to catch fish there. Me, wind, and Conroe don't get along.

This lake is catch and release only. It appears to be a fishermans dream. Not too big, not too small. A little timber, a lot of veggies, lily pads, a little deep water and nice shore lines. The problem is that all of the fish in there are old veterans, seeing lure after lure after lure. They are tough to fool. I've tried wacky worms; they don't seem to work for me either.

I wish I could teleport myself to Lake Bastrop. Sigh....

Best of luck to all that fish there.

This spring has been a lot worse than last year. It is has had more pressure than last year at this time. I went last thursday after work, there were four boats on the water when I got there. After a few minutes of being on the water two or three more boats showed up. I am with you Rayzor on the when it comes to Conroe and the wind. Plus, on Conroe people seem to think that they are some kind of special I guess. They can't even say hello, the bad part about that is those a s s holes come to Raven for the spawn. It will be nice like I have said before, when all the tourist spring fisherman take their punka#ses back to where ever they come from. It is a tough lake, but when you get it, it goes and throws you another curveball. Good luck with the new job.

Only fished Raven a couple of times and only caught a couple of fish each time. My experience with lockjaw fish since is to downsize bait and weight (t-rigged) and slower retrieve. Good luck.

I've fished off the bank in lake raven and had no luck. Hows the weather out that way? I wouldn't mind making the drive if I could take my little inflatable out.

Weather has been beautiful. Wind blows like @#^% every day, though!

haha yeah the wind is killing me. Either I go with the current and can't get back to the dock, or I try and fight my way against current for an hour, only to have the wind switch on me laugh. I'd like to get some bigger bluegills to take home, tired of filleting these poor little 4-5" ones.
