I have a 2005 Dodge Ram with the 5.7, and it randomly stalls when coming to a stop. It mainly happens after it has been sitting over night and is usually the first stop after it has time to warm up. It has been doing this for about a year now. The dealer had it for 6 weeks and their engineers didn't even have a clue. It seems like it didn't start until after I changed the transmission fluid and filters last April. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or possibly the cause. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did you have your transmission serviced before it started?

By stalling do you mean it acts like a stick shift does when coming to the stop sign and you dont push the clutch in? If so it sounds like either the converter going bad or the converter lockup solenoid. Being it is only random My first guess would be the solenoid.

The rpm's will either drop under 500 and it will almost die and then rev up and settle out around 500. Or it will just die and start back up like nothing ever happened. Other than that it runs great. No codes whatsoever.

I would clean the throttle body and throttle plate before I replaced any parts.

So far I have replaced the throttle body and egr valve. The Hemi doesn't actually have an idle air control valve. It has an idle air control motor, which is built into the throttle body. I'm still leaning towards the transmission cooler return filter. Dodge has a couple different versions. If you get the wrong one, which happened the fist time I changed the fluid, it will allow the fluid in the torque converter to drain back into the pan after sitting for an extended period of time. When this happens the truck won't move when you put it in gear unless you let it warm up for about 10-20 seconds. This is also about the time it started to die on me. Even after getting the "latest and greatest" filter put in it still continued to die. When I installed the current filter I did not use a torque wrench. This may be the cause of my problem?

What Bryan said is a possibility as well.

Check that before messing with the filter, which I doubt is the cause.

Good news and bad news. I changed the fluid and filters and it hasn't died once, but it is now suffering from the dreaded "delayed engagement." If it is put into gear after sitting over night it will not move until it has warmed up for 5-10 seconds. The dealer thinks the transmission pump is sticking?????

i have a 2006(non-hemi) and the idle on it has been jumping around for some reason. its only died like twice, but it started right back up. mine will sometimes idle close to 0 according to the gauge and sometimes it will bounce around. im not sure what it is. any takers?

Go ahead and order a new ECU for it, online...but pay the $75 and keep your old one.

If it's anything like the Jeep ECUs, the electrolytic capacitors in it are fried....there are multiple cold soldier joints and if you wiggle the plugs on the ECU, I bet you can make the truck die.

the best place is www.autocomputersdirect.com

About $300 and you can do it yourself. The dealer is going to eat you up with sensors, etc if you dont.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

tap on the ECM with the handle end of a screwdriver ( taptest). if it dies, your ecm is bad like Oldfrog said.
