GuadXSmallmouth. There are no pure strains of either smallmouth or Guadalupe bass in the Colorado river system from Austin downstream. They are fun to catch, and they love some current.

It's more than the catfish would do.

It is NOT a smallmouth. NOT a smallmouth.

It's a Guadalupe Bass. Smallies do NOT have rows of spots. That's the state fish of Texas lol.

Just happens to have a darker coloration then they often do.

(Possibly a Guad/smallie hybrid as their strains have gotten mixed up do to stocking. )

Very nice fish!

FYI, the TPWD lists records in LBL for Guadalupe, and Guad x Spotted. Whereas in Austin they list records for Guad, and Guad x Smallie. But neither lake lists a record for smallies.

Bingo. coolio Smallies Do Not have rows of spots on their lower bodies.
Probably a Guad X Smallie hybrid. Unfortunately the Hill Country is full of them except for a few sanctuaries and reestablishing efforts. Remember that male bass (and other sunfish) tend to get darker during the spring.

Bettin' a cross. TPW did stock the lake with smallies years back.

Northerns! Hooked a few behind AAS building.

Caught another similar looking fish yesterday...what do you think, smallie, guad, or cross?

good.

when they're all hybridized past the point of breeding, restock with guads, and keep the smallies out.
