Anyone use one of these? Had a guy try to sell me one saying that with a 1/2 inch weight and 10lb line you can cast it 75 yards.

Calcuttas are pretty good reels for the money.May be a little pricy. Depends entirely on what you think your specific need is for it. Drshark

I'm talking specifically about the one with the digicontrol. Just curious if it worked or was just a gimmick

I've heard the sales pitch, but I wont have a computer chip blah blah blah reel. For that crazy high price I can have whatever I want without the delicate parts. Even if it isn't a gimmick. It just isnt right...IMO

it does work and it does increase your casting distance. you can still backlash it but it does take a little effort on my part to screw it up. is it worth the 500 dollar price tag? that depends on how much you use it and how deep your pockets are. i loaded mine with straight spectre and use it for flipin and casting lightbaits. i just carry an extra rod and change the reel...rick

i have one and it does increase casting distance about 30%. As McGolfer stated, you can still backlash ( i've managed to do it several times ), but it is without a doubt the best reel I have. The Calais is another reel I've got and it's about $120 cheaper. It too is a very nice reel and basically is about the same from casting perspective - very smooth.

I use Calcutta TE 250 DCs. I enjoy them. Although they cost more, they are not perfect, but for me, they are pure pleasure. You can easily cast good distances with little effort, and so far when I have backlashed (I use 30# braid), they have cleaned up quickly and easily. The more expensive Shimanos, whatever the model, are not for everyone, but for those of us buy them, they are purchased and used because they are great reels and a pleasure to use.

I don't smoke, drink or spend my money on new trucks or cars often; good fishing tackle, rods, reels and kayaks are my vices. I much prefer them to the others!

My wife gave me a DC a little over a year ago, but she started using it all the time. Before the DC, I spent way too much time getting her backlashes out, but now I have time to fish. She can cast all day and rarely gets tangled. I now have one, as well. Used solely in saltwater, neither reel has developed any corrosion. I recently took both of them apart and was surprised how clean they were inside.
