Has anyone ever fished with Dolphin Docks at Port-A? They have a pretty frequent schedule of 36, 40 and 48 hr trips.

I've been on them numerous times also to 64 hrs. good capt's and they bring in fish, the boats are not nice but adequate-and they are slow, the cooked food is good and helps make up for the rest of the lack of accomodations. they are dependable: I have not been stood up in 10 years of fishing them (but I am 0 for 2 on the big e). If you need a fix, give them a try.

I've been on about 6 of the Safari trips over the past 8 years. They've always put us on fish, the deckhands are usually helpful. Captain Dean on the Dolphin is great. There is a newer captain on the La Pesca (I forget his name) but last October he put us on Tuna he was helpful as well. They supply a cook on the long trips- breakfast, lunch, dinner.... decent food for a smelly old boat. Like the others have said, the boats are slow so expect a 12 to 15 hour ride out. That is the only gripe I would have. I am going to try the Big E in October for a change of pace for my yearly? trip. They also offer a fish cleaning service after the trip, kinda pricy but convenient.

I dont know them, but we've been out on the "Pelican" several times ( across the street from the captain quarters motel) and we have been very pleased with John, one of the captains.
If I knew how to post a pic of the place, I'd do it. I have a few on this system somewhere.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

erik I've been on one or two. The crews are very good. Capt Dean is among the best. I don't know the new Captian (Tim?) but have heard he is good. Jamie is a darn good cook. If I remember they repowered LaPesca last year, so speed may be better. I will say in the past you could troll all the way out to the floaters and back. I like the smaller groups as a rule.

Thanks guy's. Old frog, I did look at the pelican (althouth I didnt call them). Their web site said that the 48 hr trips only run through March. I'll look into the Dolphin Docks some more.. Thank you all for the input.
If anyone knows of other good trips, please let me know! I have a couple of guys I fish with that want to go as well. So keep me in mind.

http://www.dolphindock.com/miscpics/July02/July02.htm July 4th, 2002 is the first trip I did with them. Page through all the pics (2 pages) on this link looking at the July 4th trip. I think the boat caught 50 yellowfin on that trip. One guy caught 7, all on super spooks. In fact, these captains broke me into yellowfin tuna fishing with surface baits. Capt Dean and Ken were skippering that trip. Capt Dean is still captain of the Dolphin and Capt Ken now skippers the La Pesca. The long range trips on La Pesca (Capt Ken) and on the Dolphin (Capt Dean) are a lot of fun. I like the food and drink they provide and there are some tables to sit on. The Pesca is a more comfortable boat than the ugly thing may lead you to believe. It had plenty of sleeping area and the air conditioner worked well last time I was on it. I heard it is faster than it used to be. Captain Dean will put you on a variety of fish other than just tuna. Sometimes Capt Dean will fish one night at the floater and work his way in the following day targeting AJs, mahi, shark, kingfish, and snapper. Some like this, some don't. Dolphin Docks have been going to the floaters for about 5 years now. I am hoping the action at Boomvang, Nancen, and Hoover pick up. They have been slower than average the past couple of years.
