When I drift or when I'm tightlining from the bank I almost always use some form of circle hook. However the other day from the rocks I noticed I was hookin up better with a regular smelled hook than my circle hooks. Is this just by chance or is there a particular hook some of you like to use underneath a float? Thanks in advance for replies.

not enough resistance to set the circle hook under a cork....i use a treble hook with punch bait. With all other bait, i use regular aberdeen hooks and be ready to set that hook!!!!!!!

i swear by anything BUT circles personally, i cant get the set just right and lose EVERYTHING that bites. im also not as experienced as some, but i prefer aberdeens or a treble with punch bait. and i pretty much repeated everthing keith said right there haha

When cork fishing I'll use a 1/0 bait holder or 2/0 Octopus hook with small shad or fillets for bait. My preferred method is to use #6 treble hook with punch or dip bait.

You don't set the hook on a circle hook - that's probably why they're not working for you. When you get bit, just reel down on them and let the circle do the work of hooking the fish. Also, don't bury the hook in the bait - put it completely through the bait so the entire barb is exposed.

I used to use the tru turn catfish hooks under a bobber. They'd hook fish good and rarely gut hook a fish. 99% of my fishing under a cork now a days is on the coast with a popping cork.

Thanks guys, I was thinking the same about the resistance, because I'd let them run what seemed like five yards and then it'd die an I've empty, but when I used the snelled they seem to work better. I have some of all these recommend hooks so I guess I'll rig one on each and see what works best personally for me. An I really appreciate this forum an you guys helping a young fellow like me (18) gain knowledge to one day be like y'all. I appreciate it
