In jed's post you said

"Yall will be Lucky if you get into any Tuna in 4-5ft seas..."

Do the size of the seas have any effect on the bite? Or is it just harder to fish?
Is it only good when it's flat?

Me and a buddy are going out on the Capt John 36hr 24/25th next week. It looks like it may be bumpy? I am just gonna watch it and hope. I had just figured it would be a fun ride. I won't mind the ride as long as the fishing is good.

Bazz was talking about trips less than 24 hours, because of the limited distance. I think yall will have more blackfin than you want to catch, with a possibility of some yellowfin. I figure the yellowfin are like bass- they hear the blackfin crushing bait, and a feeding frenzy will start. Once the yellows start, be ready!

That's because they are going on a shorter trip on a slower boat with DD that wont make very good headway when it's rough. On a 12 hour trip they need to cover a lot of water to find tuna on shrimp boats close in.

Anything is possible but I think on a short 12 hr trip in rough seas your chances go way down. It's Ok to set your goals high, but I would'nt let not catching Tuna ruin a trip. You just have to make the best of whatever fish are biting.

On a 36 or 48hr trip.. your tuna chances go way up because they have time to run slower in the rough water and still get you on fish. Your trip with Capt. John should be fine.
