I got invited to go on a 1 day chartered shark fishing trip this month. Is it worth going? I don't know squat about it. The Gulf is a long way from here, and I don't want to waste $ on a boring trip. Any sugestions?

Kikr: You can almost always get a shark...so it's pretty certain you'll catch something. _Bull Sharks are Like a Mack Truck with 4 wheel drive..tough fighters. They also get pretty big so you might catch your largest fish ever. _It's Up To You... wheather You think a 16hr oneway trip is worth it?? I drive 8hrs oneway to go Tuna Fishing out of Port Aransas every year. So I might not be the right one to answer this one? LoL! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bazztex<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Absolutely go!! This time of year if you are with a guide you will certainly get a good one, IMHO. Last week I caught 3 shark from the surf at Padre Island. Boat fishing behind shrimpers, etc. - Oh, my....hold on!!

I thought happiness was seeing " Lubbock in my rearview mirror" GO, by all means, a bad day on the gulf is better than a good day on the south plains. I lived in Brownfield for a couple of years , so I know. Take some pic and post your results Good luck MO

You better take that trip. Fishing behind shrimpers can be outstanding. I've seen lots of big sharks come out from under shrimpers. If they are trawling you'll see them busting the top. Can't beat that.

Since offshore fishing is not my favorite type fishing my glasses aren't quite so rosey. If you can spend more than one day you might have a better shot at a good trip as the weather can ruin one day of fishing offshore but if you have a couple to choose from you've got a much better shot. Didn't mean to rain on the parade (pun intended). That being said, I would still go but I would have an alternate plan to fish elsewhere.

I agree, always pays to have a plan B. Remember this guy is from Lubbock. Sitting on the dock drinking beer and catching hardhead is still more fun than anything happening in Lubbock. Can you tell I am not overly fond of the South PLains ? It is right in the middle of some of the best fishing in the country ( 500 miles in any direction) good luck MO

I live in Lubbock and drove to Freeport 2 weeks ago to fish for sharks & reds. It was a blast and worth the drive and money.
