Got to the Lake Thursday afternoon & after checking in to Little Mineral decided to trailer the boat west. Scouted and fished from North Island to the 377 bridge for several hours w/out a bite. Marked lots of bait & fish but didnt manage a bite. Tried sassies, shanghi & wild eye swim baits, slabs, buck tail jigs & even tried trolling deep divers, nada! Pulled out to go cook some wagyu steaks. We kept the boats on the trailers because we wanted to try the west end again the next day. Friday morning headed that way again. A lot more boats on the water but didnt see anybody catching. By the time we got to the Buncomb Creek area my brother & I saw lots of birds sitting around on the water & marking a lot of fish but nothing interested. All of a sudden the birds got working and we were the only boat close. We hooked up quick 3 times but only managed to get 1 in the boat, lost a big one right at the boat. By that time boats were rushing in all over this school & it was over. I liked Brians analogy of a steak thrown in a school of piranhas. The bait guides still managed some fish out of this school but we couldnt get bit anymore. Since we were still marking a lot of fish we setup some drifts and managed to get about 5 fat box fish & 1 over before calling it quits. All of these fish came on sassy shads & a shanghi swim bait. We actually caught 2 of these fish by just putting the rod in the holder & letting the wind & waves work the bait (dead sticking I guess but not sitting still by any means). Trailered back to LM & put the boats in over there but the wind picked up so we decided to hang out at camp & make some killer wagyu beef burgers. Yes, red meat overload! Since the striper fishing was so slow for us we decided to try for catfish that night. Managed only 3 blues to the boat & broke 1 off. Not a great couple days of fishing but we still caught fish & had a great time. In case any of you have kids in grade school you probably recognize Flat Stanley in a couple of these pics. He took the trip w/ us smile. Back to work tomorrow frown.
