Woke up a little late, 8:41, and got to Gravel Crossing at about 9:15. With the south winds being so strong we still had a tough time paddling up the river. Started out trying to fish for some crappie and had nothing but dinks, so we paddled up some more and tried to target white bass. Saw about a school of 50+ whites in a shallow rocky area, tossed about everything in my tackle box at them and not one. Two fly-fishermen came by with clausers and put a nice dent in them, I figured I'd leave the fly rod at home because of the winds but oh man was that a mistake. Brown/Gray Clauser Minnow is what did the trick for them though if ya'll were wondering.

As usual, if all else fails you can almost never have a bad time bluegill fishing. We worked the banks with a slip bobber and a sz 8 hook with a 2" Powerbait Chartreuse Grub. We managed a few nice ones, with a largemouth and a ton of tiny whites in between. All I can say is that I won't EVER think twice about taking my fly rod with me. We could've had our limit in under 2 hours. Here are some pictures.

Big one of the day.

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

Very good report indeed. That area looks like a really nice place to fish. Where is Gravel Crossing?
