Just got back from my annual lake fork trip. The lake fished totally different from last year this time. We fished hard every day but just couldn't really put together a good pattern until this morning. Because of the wind i couldn't fish a lot of places i wanted so i was restricted to a few spots. Saturday- fished little caney and ended the day with 8 fish. 3 off beds, couple on wacky, couple on brush hogs. Sunday-had one fish. The rest of the week. We tried wolf, had couple of fish, williams-couple of fish, same story with little mustang. Our best spot was in long branch. early we would catch a few on shallow crankbaits. In the back of the creek in the trees we did ok fishing plastics slow. this morning in long branch after a frustrating start, i decided to use a buzz bait. my very first cast i stuck one over 7 lbs. i fished the buzz bait until 10:45 and had 11 more up to 6 lbs. i wish i would have pulled it out at 7 am. we then puulled 10 more off beds. all in long branch. saw several females that were very good fish, i'd say over 8 lbs, but just would take the bait. oh, and we saw a 6 ft alligator in little caney and go some great up close pics. will post pics later. one last thing. we found some grass in little caney yesterday evening. and in 30 min we pulled 4 fish in by ripping traps out of the grass. so there are a few patches of graass. i know it was grass because it was on our traps a few times, and it wasn't that coontaill looking stuff

Pretty fish. It has been a WINDY week but I will take it over what we could have had (cold front).

Nice report, great looking bass!!!!
I stuck a couple up here along the Red River this week with a late evening buzz bait.
Not the usual buzz bait take (we're still a little cooler than it is on Fork) but it was fun.
I am heading to Fork this week, a buzz bait will be in the arsenal!

We went about the same time as you. Most of our trip consisted of flipping timber in 5' or less with senkos or lizards. The only way we could catch them was if we threw it right on top of their heads. Most of the fish were buck bass or smaller females. We finally caught onto a pattern later in the trip. We started fishing wind blown banks and points in the evening and did real well. I caught an 8.5 lb hogger which is now my personal best which broke my previous lake fork 7.5 lb pb. If you want to catch alot of fish in a short amount of time, thrown crank baits on wind blown points in the evening and you will catch alot. Its crazy that they were already on this pattern but this is how I caught my 8.5 lb hogger. We also caught several other fish this way. Of course we just caught onto this patter the last day. It sure was fun though.
