Well, we started renting a 2-man kayak on a weekly basis for myself and my brother in law until my birthday flies around in may when they plan on buying me a kayak. (it's suppose to be a secret) But anyways, with the winds blowing like they are now we're going to try a new creek that we've never been to before to get out of those huge winds. Last weekend we went out and had waves come over the side of our yak, so we're trying to stay dry this time.

Are crappie and white bass still up creeks? From past experiences the crappie and white bass normally move up at the same time, but are we too late? Or will they still be there, if so, how deep? What patterns have ya'll had luck on and do you use a slip bobber or just a jig? ANYTHING will help, I know absolutely nothing about this creek other than that there is a 14 ft gator there.. Not too happy about that but it's a risk I'm willing to take to catch me some fish!

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

The gator part sounds pretty scary. Other than that, are you going to be walking the bank or in the kayak? Either way, I usually have the best luck with my 10ft crappie rod, jigging around brush or other shallow structure. If you don't have a rod that long, I would go with the jig and bobber or a minnow under a bobber. How clear is the water in the creek? A pair of polorized glasses will help you spot fish and structure you might miss without them. Good luck! Tell your brother hi. Lol. Too bad it doesn't look like there will be another Bream Buster.

Here's a link to Carey's videos. They're a good place to start for basics.

Although your a little farther south than me I would say yes. It sounds like you have a solid plan to hit the creek and avoid the wind.

I would fish jig and bobber, laydowns, and also any deeper structure in the creek. There has got to be some fish there somewhere. Good Luck!

Females really started moving up on Belton this week. Caugh 14 today in 2 ft of water. They have been staged on brush for weeks an most of em are gone now. This is main lake fish. Some of the creek spawn is over and is slowing down drastically IMO. Males were holding tight to cover today while females were found on gravel banks. Good luck. Let us know how you do. Bite shut down mid day. It was pretty steady this morning.

Forgive the randomness of this post, typing on my phone.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Normally the crappie will start showing up in the creeks around nov-december time. Depending on the creek of course. Sandbass wont show up till early spring for their spawn. Look for bends and shallow flats in the creek and of course any kind of structure you can find and work it thru. If you find one more then likely their wil be more there, crappie will spawn in schools, meaning if you find one more will be in that area. Or find some wind protected coves and try for the spawning fish. Not sure whats going on your lake with water temps or anything but we used to pull them off the rocks at franks marina and also in that cove in the back and also at still house where the fishing barge was BUT that was years ago when i lived there in kileen. You may also try the discharge on the other side of the dam we caught a lot of everything there in the winter thru spring time as long as the water was flowing
