Its not a revenue issue. It is a liabilty issue. Cities/states get their money from taxes (property/sales). Hunting/fishing citations make up a very small amount. Houston has turned a profit of over $7 million dollars since 11/2007 on red light cameras. Dallas is a little over $1 million. I could see more of an issue in a small town or village.

Kid falls out of a tree on your property, your problem.
Kid gets hurt in a bounce house at a birthday party on you property, your problem.
Your dog bites someone, your problem.
Someone drowns in your pool, your problem.
Fishing/hunting on someone elses land and you get hurt or drown, their problem. Even with a liability waiver.

Blanket no access to land or water. Active enforcement of trespassing laws protects them.

Yep, you got that right. I won't get on my pedestal on this one again, but it's a sad truth that there are a lot of people out there that have no respect for our environment, and trash our shorelines.

Carry a trashbag in your tacklebox, and take out more that you came in with.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting on the water looking like a darn fool.

+1 on taking out more than what you came with.

I can't believe anybody is sympathetic toward you!!! Violating private property owner's rights and trust makes a lot of people besides youself loose fishing priv;edges when landowners get fed up.
You knew good and well when you crossed that fence, you were tresspassing into private property, and you knew good and well 'permission 15 yrs ago' has nothing to do with now!
I've been on the other side, as a private land owner, having all our hard work and care in stocking and feeding fish in our private lake and ponds stolen by people that thought it a fishermans right to crawl over fences to access a good fishing hole.
Current permission of the landowner should always be observed, as well as the terms and conditions they set forth. Such as, permission for you doesn't automatically extend to every fishing buddy you may ever bring there with you. Again, we experienced that, tell neighbor John from down the road he can fish, next thing we know we have troops of strangers all over the place that when ask insist they got 'permission' from John's brother-in-law's cousin twice removed's barber!
You deserved every penny of that fine.

I understand both sides of your issue but whether you like to admit it or not, you didnt even make an attempt to contact the land owner until after the ticket. It sucks the fine is so much but your family wouldve got a million dollar settlement if you drowned in that pond. Gotta give the GW props for not arresting you and showing up so fast to a call

Yikes. Little harsh there.

Sorry if my post upset you. I was just venting. I never intended to imply that I was "right" or that the land owner or game warden did anything wrong.
