What brand of boat trailer tires do you prefer?

From north of Dallas, I am looking for trailer tire size 4.80-12, already had the aluminum rim. Do anyone know where to buy it? give me a place thanks.

Denton, go to Academy. Rather, I have some Load Stars or something like that and they have been good so far. What kind of trailer are we talking? Big heavy boat or a light tinny??

I've had good luck with Goodyear Marathons and Carlisle tires. I've always kept them max psi and avoid turning/backing too sharp. I've kept them away from curbs and deep potholes. Got 7 years out the Marathons on an RV and then 4 more years of service on a flatbed trailer.

I've heard people griping about both Marathons and Carlisle. Personally, I've had good luck with both. But like I said, I take care of my stuff and am pretty anal about tire pressures.

Stay away from the china bombs and run the tire pressure at the maximum pressure reccomended by the tire manufacturer and not the trailer manufacturer. I personally prefer LT tires on my heavier trailers and passenger car tires on lighter trailers, Im not big on trailer tires.

I have had great luck with carlysls and marathons, usualy buy whatever one is cheapest at the time. I have also bought some P-rated tires for use as spares that have outlasted several of the trailer load star or something like that trailer tires on my flatbed.

Run them at max inflation on the tire, dont overlad them and if they are speed rated stay under that speed.

The last marathon I bought said not to tow over 65 mph... which how some on here talk about pulling the boat 75-85 small wonder you have tire failure.

I run Carlisle bias ply. No radials for me. Try to keep them at 50+ lbs.. I have never had a bias ply Carlisle blow or even go flat. My boat & trailer at just about the upper limit for a single axle.

Boat manufacturers put boats on tandem trailers as a selling point. Some think they ride better, the benefit of being able to blow a tire and still limp somewhere, less toungue weight... etc. Not because the package is too heavy for a single axle.

I had Carlisle's on my old boat, towing at or above 70 m.p.h would have them popping like ballons! Discount would not mount car tires because they said sidewall is soft for trailers. Fast forward, my new boat has low profile Falken ZR rated tires. I towed this boat 700+ miles at a constant 75 m.p.h. and NEVER had a problem. I have gone over 80 with no issues (wouldn't recommend that). Bottom line, trailer tires are not rated for towing over 65 m.p.h.

I do not tow above 70 for extended periods. You are absolutely correct on the car tires. I tried that once. I always figured single versus dual was a weight thing. I think my tires have a weight capacity of 1800 - 1900 each. This would put the total pkg. at 3600 - 3800. I have not looked but I am sure you can find tires with weight capacities in the low 2s. I know on travel trailers and mobile homes that weight drives the number of axles.

Trailer tires are just like vehicle tires they come in load ranges, one of our flatbeds has tires rated around or a little over 3500 lbs per tire and you can probably get bigger ones.

My uncle has a 21' boston whaler on a singe axle trailer, came with a tandem he got rid of it and loves the alluminum single axle. I have never heard of a law requiring boats longer than 20.5 foot to be on a tandem trailer.
