Im just curious as to what everyone uses for snapper fishing.
Reels, rods, lures, bait, hooks, line, whatever you use that helped you become more productive at snapper fishing lets hear about it.
Ill start it off: I use Speck rigs tipped with bait and with about 6 inches or wire leader. Our fish size actually increased when we used these smaller lures. I like to use a penn #9 or large spinning reel with about 20# line on it. The lighter tackle really makes it more fun and you dont get as tired as you do with a heavy bottom rig.
Fish till your arms fall off; then crank the reel with your mouth.

Randy do you use a feather jig or just a plain lead head jig?

Arrowhead with deer hair tail.I let it sink from a drifting boat and reel it back slow from the bottom to about 10' below the surface. Then let it fall and reel it back. If kingfish are bad I add a little steal. Anyone every try a snapper slapper? I've seen them catch fish but are they really worth the money? Maybe ill add a stinger onto a regular buck tail.

Snapper Slappers also work but I have had my best luck with the Arrowhead. I also like a regular bucktail with a trailer. You need more weight most of the time than a regular bucktail will allow. You can buy the arrowhead at Bass Pro.

What pound mono do you use? Unfortunately we have no bass pro for miles down here. Academy is just about it.

Thanks for the ideas. Im going to but a trailer on a few jigs and see if I catch more fish. Im just curious what depth do you fish in, on average?

About 90 feet out of Freeport is were the Snapper fishing starts to get good it seems.I live in north Texas and take my boat down 2 or 3 times a year.It dont take much snapper fishing to make me happy. There are those here and on other forums that might disagree with the 90' thing. I have not been fishing for Snapper that long.I am still expermitting like you.I fished my first 20 years offshore for Kings,Sharks,Dorado etc.

We go out of Port Mansfield and we catch fish in 30 foot water. Its a blast on really light tackle (especialy when you can see the fish).
Fish till your arms fall off; then crank the reel with your mouth.
